Contest, weeks 26-27

Well, Labor Day is almost over, and school is back in session ...
Last contest's winner climbers See Profile big surprise there has suggested that this contest answer the age old question:

"What did you do on your summer vacation?"

he's also said he won't play this time...

The contest begins now; entries stop in the morning of Friday the 12th.

The rules:

Limit one entry per person, per contest.

Discussion is discouraged. (though that doesn't stop the creation of a 'companion' thread, for that purpose).

Information on judging may be found here.

Remember that the picture will be reduced to 200 wide x140 high.

Ugh! Math!
What summer vacations?

Between moving to Vanocuver and working on my dissertation, I hardly got a break. Not that I'm complaining... Anyway, the picture is from an economic model I developed during the summer. I took pictures of the whole write-up to discuss it with my sister, who lives in Argentina and is my in-house mathematician. Much cheaper than faxing it over...

Now, when we do this after the winter vacations you'll get stuff from England, Italy and Spain!

Crater Lake
I didn't really go on a summer vacation, but I did get to travel to Portland, Oregon for a conference this summer... so it was vacation-esque. In any case, my wife and I had some time for sightseeing, and a must for us was to travel to Crater Lake in southern OR. We took the better part of a day there. It's truly a beautiful and amazing place to visit if you get the chance.

This photo is completely unaltered, as I wanted to convey the pureness and clarity of the lake and the reflection of the crater walls. Yes, it really is *that* blue.

Well not so much on vacation as the return from but...
As many of you know I have a fondness for sunsets and clouds...

But from a different perspective this time... rather than below, got many from above and in this case... literally face to face.

Reflection Lake
Doesn't this look ever-so familiar...hmm...

Anyways, biggest trip of the summer was my 3 day trip to Mt. Rainier, and was one of the many highlights of my summer, so I don't think you can get bored of this scene

I spent a week this summer four wheeling through the Colorado mountains. This picture was taken with my Coolpix2500 (didn't have my G3 yet ) as 4 separate shots, then stitched together. The location is off Guanella pass, above the Duck Creek campground exploring jeep trails. The runoff and mineral deposits are from an old goldmine located just behind me as I took the picture. My jeep can be seen in the lower right hand corner, and the trail up to this spot is MUCH harder than the picture shows.

Cooperative Bee :)
This summer I bought my CP4500. Now, I'm trying to get pictures that come close to matching my friend's new D100!! Sometimes I actually succeed! He's been a great instructor too! I'm pretty dumb when it comes to ISO, F-stops, and all the other technical stuff. But, I'm learning! Not getting blow-out in the highlights is a real challenge!!

Since the new cameras arrived, we've been chasing bugs and stuff! Here's a cooperative bee we found over the Labor Day weekend!!! I'm getting better--It only took about 10 shots to get this one!!

I went down to Puerto Vallarta with my family for a few days. I took this down at the Ocean, I got a few others, but I like this one the best (The others aren't far behind though). Hope you like it!
