 | Getting 6mb speed, what can i do with it? I wanted to have speed so much didnt stop to think what I would use it for...
So anyone have any ideas what to do with a 6.0mb download DSL line?
Music, video clips, anything else?
I am paying for all this bandwidth and have nothing to use it up with... for the first time in my life I have too much bandwidth and nothing to do with it.... |
|
 | download anime, thats what i use the bulk of my bandwidth for, so far on SBC my 24 hour period download record is 37 GB lets see if i can break that... =) |

But it would have its uses. Faster OS updates from windows update, faster demo downloads for new games, faster patch downloads for games, etc.
I myself would love it for my debian updates, which can sometimes be 30MB+ when they update XFree and stuff like that, but it's nothing I can't wait a little while extra for. I'd personally rather have 768/768 than 3.0/384 or something like that Too bad SDSL is insanely expensive (and doesn't work via RTs). |

| reply to hmm 6mb 608k is fairly close to 768k, MUCH better than 384k anyhow. The 6 mbit down is a nice "bonus" when you buy a high upstream. It's pretty clear from SBC's pricing that the upstream is where they see value, just look at the price on the 384/384 package.

| reply to hmm 6mb online gaming would be a treat with this package, over the net installs of Linux/BSD/whatever, windows updates and remote file transfers would all go really quick. Start getting into online audio/video, real player and windows media player have links to start to do it. You could easily watch an online video stream with very good quality, game, surf, do a multimonitor media center. BBC has a hi bw stream at »www.bbc.co.uk/newsa/n5ctrl/tvseq···_ost.ram, showing just how good streaming can be. |

Hey that's a nice link. Do you have the page that links to this link? I went to their main page but all the video links are only 24k--low bandwidth links. Thanks. |

 | reply to hmm 6mb Well guys thanks for all the suggestions.
But I realized that I have 3 active computer users and one often user. Which that in it self should eat up the bandwidth.
Its like being in a dorm with no download caps!!!
Lets see what new uses I will find for all this bandwidth... |

| reply to hmm 6mb I use up all 4 of my megabits pretty regularly. Downloading SDKs from Microsoft, Linux ISOs, driver updates, etc. I see over 250KB/sec on a VERY regular basis, 400KB/sec happens only from tme to time. I'm definitely finding having more than 1.5 megabits worthwhile although I don't know if 6 would be that much better than 4. It's the 608k upstream that I'm really salivating for though.

Heck, wouldn't know what to do with 6 meg down. 1.5 down has already put a huge dent in my main storage drive
20 gig left out of 111 available, just got it 2 months ago lol. -- »snipershide.free-universe.com/ |
