| Telocity: ADSL=SDSL???
Its been about 30 days since my NorthPoint line went down, so I was pleased to find Telocity's new gateway had been delivered today. However, when I opened the package, I noticed that it was for ADSL service. Since I previously had SDSL (784/784), I called Telocity. After conferring with a technical support rep, the customer service rep assured me that, notwithstanding the fact that I now had ADSL service on a Verizon circuit, Telocity would "do everything possible" to see that I got the same speeds (both up and down) I had with SDSL. While I suppose this is technically possible, I have my doubts whether this will prove true when I get the gateway up and running. In any event, it would have been nice if Telocity had told me of this change before the installation.
In addition, it would have been nice if Telocity had given me the option of having DSL installed on my data line, rather than on my voice line. (NorthPoint, in contrast, had run a third new line.) Now, I have to put filters on about a dozen phones, answering machines, etc. and Telocity supplied only 3 filters. If the service had instead been installed on my data line, I would only have needed a filter on my modem and fax.
Despite these complaints, I do get the sense that Telocity is working very hard to make the best of a very difficult situation that it cannot completely control. They seem to be quickly restoring service to a lot of people and their technical support has always been top notch. So, I'll give Telocity another try before deciding whether to cancel my cable service with @Home. |
