Just helping out

I've never heard of some fo the teams listed above before. However, I can say I'm a proud member of the Team Discovery project to help find a cure for nearly 1 1/2 years now.

Unused CPU

I have participated in a couple. Most of the programs have a setting where the priority of the project can be set, with the default to be the least important. This means that anytime a demand is placed on the computer's CPU, the project lets anything and everything go to the processor first. There is no change in computer speed for anything a person wants to do. However when something like getting to a web page that you want to read happens (like this one right now) then the program again begins to utilize your computers CPU, as you read. Painless, non-intrusive, and a nice thing to be involved in.
I'm currently on team Starfire (SETI) which has moved to 6th place on the world club list.

Re: Just helping out

I actually have an old pentium 200 that is dedicated to just running SETI@home. No keyboard and no monitor (KVM switch), just a box running the software.

Pretty slow though. I thought that since it would be running 24/7 it would crunch better, but its real slow.

Ditto, nice article Capt, glad you're feeling better too.

One thing though to all. Make sure if doing anything with any other Computer or Computers other than your own that you get Permission in Writing.
