 | updated speakeasy speeds...? Well, I don't recall ever getting an email telling me that my speeds will be upgraded, but i've heard a bit about it on the forums. Anyhow, I went to my 'order status' page today and saw some new things on there that I assume are in relation to this upgraded speed.. Anyhow, my speeds are the same as they were before.. should be getting 384 upload now (well, near it), still only gettin around 112.. Any ideas? Here's the status thing..

| hmm.. I just called speakeasy. They said that despite what the order status page said, i am provisioned at 1.5/128 right now and that will be changing over to 1.5/256 in october or november, for 59.95 instead of the 69.95 i am paying right now (i have the gamer 'plus package') Whats up with that?! Said they don't have a 1.5/384 .. only 256 or 768 for $10 more than i am paying now.. now that sucks. I mean, 256 is still better than the 128 i have now, but its not what ive heard i was going to get, not what order status says i should have, and its not anytime near sep. 2nd.. Like i said before, i love speakeasy and upgrades late or not are still great as long as they cost me nothing.. but I wish they would give me a speed and time correctly without having me call them.. anyone know whats up with this????

 | reply to hlsniper Well, my second call to speakeasy was much more enjoyable.. the person i talked to actually seemed to know more about what he was saying, and thanks for giving me the tip on letting them know where i was coming from, maybe that helped a bit Anyhow, it appears that that person couldn't give me any specific dates either, and stated the same sometime october guess. Oh well, no upgrade for me just yet, but thankfully I now know that it'll happen... |

StacyFotoDoguePremium join:2001-11-02 New York, NY | reply to hlsniper I just checked »www.speakeasy.net/residential and it appears Speakeasy no longer offers 1.5/376. The lowest residential speed offered is now 1.5/256, and the next is 1.5/768
The way I read your ticket Speakeasy is requesting that Covad take you out of Safe Mode (error corrected mode) and put you back in Fast Mode (uncorrected mode). Whenever Covad completes that you should see higher speeds. |

brudy join:2000-05-07 San Jose, CA | reply to Stacy They do indeed still offer the 1.5/384 service. I ordered it last week
I am one of the poor saps who had to order new service because my 608/128 dedicated 2nd line wasn't on the list for price reduction/upgrade. I have to admit, it's far easier getting new service installed than the first time I ordered DSL in May of 2000... |

Kat is not infallible (though she make think she is...), but there may have been a miscommunication in her original post. -- Testing, testing, 01 10 11 [AIM - BoyBandsMakeUGay] |

BBIB2U join:2002-01-24 Fontana, CA | reply to hlsniper Uh, please forgive my total lack of knowing...but what are you people talking about? I avoid going to the Speakeasy website like the plague. (oh ok, so I'm exaggerating!) Anyhow, it annoys me no end all of the great offers they have, none of which I'm applicable(?) for. I've been paying around $80+ to connect at 768/384 with 2 email addys and 2 IPs for years now. But I only use one IP. I just don't feel like it's worth the hassle of removing the second IP. Don't ask. -lol (unless you have time for a lonnnng story!)
Anyhoo, so I gather there has been some change with Speakeasy actually being finally able to pass on some savings like they had said they would so very long ago, if and when they were able to do so.
Well, this latest tidbit of news totally escaped me, not surprising since I'm only periodically sent those vital customer notices for as yet still undetermined reasons. I'm still ruminating over that last stunt with the email, but hey now I can receive email sent from the eBay and SprintPCS domains directly; as in without first having to retrieve it from the Spam bin! I'll tell ya' it took me awhile to figure out that situation even existed, since the AmikaGuardian-Server(?) didn't always automatically dump these emails as spam, just sometimes. Really, you'd think that after the first time it cost them a free month of service they would've made sure that I wasn't ever removed from the vital-system-change-notices sent out...but I digress.
Please don't misunderstand me, despite such mishaps and the more-than-modest monthly fee, I'm rather satisfied with the service from Speakeasy. In all of the years that I've been with Speakeasy I've only had occasion where the service was down but once and once only. I hardly think ANY other ISP has very many customers that can make that claim.
Anyone care to kindly fill me in please? I'm particularly interested in learning about what is meant by synch-ing the modem for the/a new speed as I'm still using the ancient, er, Efficient Networks SpeedStream 5250 modem. Should/would/does this make a difference?
Your input will be greatly appreciated. Thank you! --Brynda -- And What Color Is The Sky In Your World |

borborpaSlipping Slowly Into OblivionPremium join:2002-02-20 New Cumberland, PA | Unfortunately, if you're on the 768/384 you will not be upgraded, because of the type of connection. You're technically on a 768 SDSL circuit. They would be able to switch you over to lineshare RADSL, with little to no down time in the switch, which would save you money. I believe when they do that though, they do require a new 12 month contract.
If the static IP isn't a big issue, you can go with the 1500/256 plan for $49.99, with a dynamic IP address. (Technically they are static right now, but will change to dynamic in the future, for that package).
If you're happy with what you have though, stick with it. There are a few legacy users as yourself that are happy with the stability they have, and don't want to risk losing it. -- Testing, testing, 01 10 11 [AIM - BoyBandsMakeUGay] |
