Yes. Agreed. It certainly is, to quote Merriam Webster, "lacking knowledge or comprehension of the thing specified". However, it might be a valuable addition to WCB's poll, perhaps. It would give some insight into what additions might be valuable to this forum, if any.

Regarding running with no firewall at all:

Not so fast. A firewall blocks access to private services that the public should not see, but what if the machines in question have only public services? What would the firewall do for you?

I have several machines outside my firewall - Linux and NT - and they are heavily stripped down to have only public services. These are helpful for running IDS and for doing security testing that can't tolerate NAT. Now inside my network is another story, of course, and the "outside" machines are not trusted in any way.

So I agree that the quoted hortatory is true in the general case -- for most people -- but it admits of many more exceptions than (say) "always wear your seat belt", which might not admit any.

I don't understand why I just got an e-mil notification about this
- the mail must be slow
Anyway i Must not have responded.

- I wasn't advocating the use of no firewall
I just thought that a poll
That asks "What firewall do you use:'
should include that as an option.
