But he only said they they probably will increase by year end. It does not mean it is going to happen. There still is plenty of time for them to change their minds.

That is awesome, but what's the change in cost going to be?

P.S. There is a plug for BBR in the article.

Remember the key word is "planned" to double the downloading capability. I would have rather seen confirmed than planned myself. At least this is 1 notch above another rumor.

Come Comcast let's see that 3Mbps download by Christmas.

How is this one notch above rumor? In all of the threads here about this everybody kept saying unless there is official word from Comcast and not hearsay from a tech support employee it will be a rumor. Well coming from the President of the cable division saying Comcast is raising the caps to 3mb down is not a rumor. By years end is just a time-frame. If they hit great for us, if they don't then at least we now have confirmation that this will happen nation side and not just a test in a select few markets.

When the hell are they going to realize that 1.5 - 1.8 megs is fine and they need to upgrade the upload?

There are thousands of gamers who want more than the measly 256kb upload!

My speed is just fine at 1800/256; although 384 up would be nice. If the Telcos are lowering their prices so they are more competitive, then why doesn't Comcast lower their prices? They are TOO HIGH! Give me 1800/256 for $34.95/month and keep the old price of $42.95 for 3000/256.

Price is the problem, not speed. Comcast, HELLO, are you listening?

I totally agree. Personally I would like the higher speed and keep the same package but only if they also dubbed upload speeds. But I also think having a $35 price tag if they had that would encourage more dial-up users to switch. If you offer a free modem (with a 1 year contract) and if it's only $35/month then that’s cheaper then dial up if you have a dedicated phone line for your internet.

Comcast would rather not mess with their bottom line. By lowering the price, that would mean less revenue for them and that's not good since they have spent millions of dollars upgrading their network.

I don't think people here are saying Comcast should lower the rates for 3000/384 keep that at the current $42.95 ballpark. What they are saying is Comcast should have a tier for the current speeds 1800/256 for $34.95. That won't affect their bottom line it probably will increase it. Most people that have Comcast silver now i am sure would stay the same for $42.95 and look at all of the dial-up users they can get for $10 more month to blow AOL away. This doesn't even include their dedicated phone line. I agree that Comcast would never do anything to hurt their profit margin, but to get twice the download for the same price and a little more upload is very appealing to me. Maybe Comcast will go to a tiered system and they will have something for the gamers that will satisfy them as well. Call me crazy but if i was the CEO of Comcast i would try to go after every type of user with a package we both agreed to. They probably would make more money and have more users if they offered more than just vanilla and chocolate. If Comcast was smart they would be the "Baskin Robins" of Broadband.

I hope Bellsouth DSL can counter this somehow. I am moving to Bellsouth DSL in a month. Been with Comcast for a year now, and it's all been downhill until now...

I'm wondering what this will cost since Comcast hasn't raised internet rates for over 6 months. Seems like they're about do.

Also how can doubling the download speed result in only a 43.3% decrease in download time (30 seconds to 17 seconds)?

Now if only they'd double the UseNet quota since I'll hit it that much faster.

I'd rather have them double the upload instead...

Then they'll probably want you to pay $95/month for the "new" 6000/512 Pro service (if that's really what the new caps will be changed to... this is purely speculation).

Now I would pay $95/month for those speeds!

Higher speed equals higher overhead.
