Maybe I'll start listening...

Maybe I'll start listening if and when the riaa/mpaa starts paying royalties to singer/songwriters/actors/actresses/etc. who rightfully deserve a portion of the cash revenue they make on their respective songs/plays.

Take for example Three Dog Night. They produced many chart-toppers, and since their record labels sold those lyrics and the band name to 3rd parties (mostly Florida junkie bands & whino groups) TDN, has not recieved a penny for all of their creative work, not a single cent in the royalties jar for them since that time. TDN isn't the only band, and definately won't be the last that the music industry swindles good talent from just to sell to the highest bidder, and not pay royalties to it's rightfull owner(s).

Another Example, Dick York, of Bewitched, where were his friends of the industry when he became ill. Why was he so poor the last few years of his life? Well, Because the contract that originally would have allowed him to recieve lifelong compensation for his work in the hit sitcom of the 50's, and the royalties he should have recieved for the numerous times it was, and still is being aired, were denied to him because of a loophole his agents were able to work around. That's Gratitude for ya I guess.

I'm waiting for this whole RIAA/MPAA thing to flop over dead. It will after litigation gets rolling at full steam. They might as well just go around grab a bunch of random people, and sue them for something thats legal in my opinion.

Oh, and by the way, somebody in another thread relating to this issue told me that the RIAA "Wouldn't be stupid enough to sue hundreds of people ... That would make them look bad". You know who you are, and all I can say is, "I told ya so".

Good Point...

The Bands, Actors, ect...who actually create the works we all enjoy and love receive a FRACTION of the profits of their works.

Most of the cost goes to the "middleman", and that ticks me off bigtime-look at the Capital Records building in SoCal(Hollywood). If it weren't for the Beatles, that place would be just another ho-hum building in town...

...nough said.

First off, TDN were more likely the victims of their own cocaine-fueled stupidity and probably made a bad deal. This is why we have negotiations and lawyers (to fight the other lawyers..hmm).

As for Dick York, and your expectation of gratitude from the leeches who had him by the short and curlies, how do they differ from the millions of so-called music "fans" who routinely deny the artists of any thanks for their hard work (your numerous thank you emails and stalkings do not count)??

I'm waiting for an answer, but somehow I don't believe any logical argument is forthcoming

And remember, despite their faults, many of these record companies have brought you some of the most poignant moments of your life (courtesy of your favorite song), at very low cost to you.

You're right there is no logical argument, when the facts have been stated. TDN, may have been drug users, but does that make them any less responsible for their works, and the royalties they should be rightfully getting? Didn't think so.

And as for Dick York, because his agents decided to do what was considered morally and ethically wrong, does that make it right, just because they were able to work around the loopholes of a contract? I didn't think so.

You may feel that your opinion is the end-all to this discussion, But fact is fact. There is nothing that even I can do to argue logistics with what the agents of both these examples have done to their clients.
