Re: Back up in Milwaukee

I was just called on Friday by a Time Warner Rep. Seems that Road Runner is ready in West Allis. You may want to try to get out of DSL with TDS. It is worth looking into, since you are getting low transfer speeds. If you stress you are getting less than what they advertise, you should be able to cancel. Call Time Warner to verify service before you call TDS. Good luck!

I can see HWY 45 from my window, so that makes me about 6 blocks east of HWY 100. My CO is MILWWI30 and I got a distance estimate from DSLREPORTS when I entered my phone number and address. The TDS Tech tested the line and he told me it was 18,000 for the new line. I guess they knew it was not right, so opened a trouble ticket with Ameritech to fix the problem. Sorry to hear about your troubles, but it sounds like you are too far from the CO for decent speed.

How do you know you're under 3 miles if your TDS connection shows up as 18,000+ feet.

Color me confused.

Yeah, I had Velotel from December until March. I was mainly pissed because they just simply ignored their customers and didn't answer the phone the day after shutdown. Pretty shitty if you ask me.

I didn't know TDS would open a ticket with Ameritech. I was told by some of the techs that my problem probably has to do with the distance I am from the CO.

Did you need to open a ticket to get the 600 DL speed or did it come up that way?

I'm just west of HWY 100. How about you?

Thanks for all the input.

Sorry, I did not reply. I just did another post. But to answer your tweak question. I checked out my settings and they are at optimal right now. I have Windows 2000 and had to do no tweaking. I also see you were with Velotel. I was bummed at the way they handled the Northpoint shutdown. I spent 250 dollars for hookup and only had 5 months of DSL through NorthPoint. Good luck on your new connection.

My NorthPoint connection was 16,000 feet. My new TDS connection was over 18,000 feet when the tech had trouble connecting with his test modem. I complained to the tech and called TDS. Two days later, I had a modem shipped to me and I get at least 600 down and 400 up (other tests on other sites give me 700 down). I am under three miles from my CO. Maybe you should have TDS open a trouble ticket with Ameritech. Seems strange your upload would be more than your download speed.

How far from the CO are you? I am 18,600 feet and TDS was able to get me DSL. Unfortunately, I'm only getting about 107KB download speeds with around 400 upload.

Obviously, I'd like the download speed to be faster. I've tried the RWIN and MTU tweaks and they don't seem to help.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

After 34 days of no DSL, TDS Metrocom has me back up on DSL. I have a faster connection than Northpoint too. The fastest I could go with Northpoint was 300k, but with TDS I am getting at least 700k. Besides the waiting for my line to get installed right by Ameritech, everything went smooth. Thanks to TDS, I am sitting pretty right now! If you live in Southeast Wisconsin or Northeast Illinois, give TDS a try.
