Packet8 Voicemail Notification?

I have had P8 for several days and everything was working OK, except now I found that I am having voicemails being left but I am not getting Voicemail notification light on DTA 310? Can anyone say what that might be?
Thanks
Danny

I think most of us Packet8 customers have complained about this. It seems to be just a bug in their system. I have noticed that reseting the unit will make the indicator work for a little while. Next time you know you have a new message, but the light isn't on, try cycling the power and watch the indicator come on.

Be happy your voicemail is working at all. My VM broke last Monday after the system upgrade and hasn't worked since. (Voicemail wont pick up on the line. )

P8 support said they put the issue into engineering, and will get back to me. I won't hold my breath. :P

Thanks all for the replies..I have a cordless phone that I use for P8 and it has answering machine but for some reason the P8 rings do not trip it. I tried to go into P8 and turn off voicemail but it will not answer the voicemail so I went back to P8 voicemail?? Maybe I will get someting to work!
Best Regards,
Danny

I had the same problem and called them. And low and behold I got through. They indicated that there was a problem with VM and the fact that I also had my calls transferred. After 20 seconds, callers would get a message saying invalid extension. After hearing it happen for himself, P8 told me it should be fixed by the end of the day (which it was in my instance). I also griped about my P8 # showing up on my cell phone when calls are transferred and he said "that's probably part of the same problem". Well, my VM now works properly with transfer but the other issue still remains.

AbitCrazy, Do you mean to reset using the reset on the back of DTA 310, or the restart on the web page?
Danny

I dont' get a voicemail notification but when i call in and put my number in and password. It says, "You have three messages" then immediately says this service is not available at this time. Very strange.

I'm talking about just pulling the power cord, wait a few seconds, and plugging it back in. It's a temporary fix. I've gotten into the habit of power cycling my DTA-310 once a day to check my voicemail.

One thing I have noticed with my P8 voice mail is that the answering machine I hooked up works much better!

P8 voice mail is most reliable when it's disabled that way it can't break.

Some day I hope it will get fixed like the CallerID did, I'm sure it will!

ABC, That worked! Thanks! I guess as long as P8 is aware of the problem, there is no point in calling them with that issue. At any rate I am VERY impressed with P8's service so far...

I'm pretty impressed with the service as well. I suppose we all have to be patient with new technologies, and cut the providers some slack who are willing to stick their necks out trying to provide a new service with many technical, and possibly regulatory, challenges. For each of the few companies that will eventually make a lot of money on VoIP, there have been, and will be many more companies that failed trying.

I don't deal well with lack of customer communications. I think P8 could improve a lot with being more forthcomming about upgrades and service outages. When I call about a problem only to be told that it was due to a scheduled upgrade, I wonder why we all could not be sent an email letting us know there may be problems.

Hi: I just wanted to report that today my voicemail magically fixed itself, and is now working. I did not have to email them again, it just started working today.

Now if they could fix the caller-ID problem on forwarded calls, I would be all set. I'll send a new email to Tech Support on that one now.

HI:

I just wanted to follow-up on this issue. I actually received a response from P8 on this, after going back and forth a few times.

Here is a response I received from P8 support on the subject, and my response:

Date: Fri, 19 Sep 2003 11:53:52 -0400 (EDT)
To: Preethi via RT
Subject: Re: [Packet8.net #9910] Problems with Voice Mail and caller-ID

Preethi:

Hello. I can understand why in some circumstances people may want this
setup the way it is now. But for me, I would rather have it be the way it
was before. So I would like to put in a request that it be left the way
it was before (passing thru caller-ID info) or possibly make a switch to
have the ability to do one or the other.

Thanks!.. and thanks for all your responses on this subject.

Sincerely,
