 Anon | Northpoint Carrier Switch
I used to have DSL service from Flashcom then Telocity with both using Northpoint as the carrier. Since Northpoint went under, all other ISPs are telling me that they can't provide DSL in my area because the remaining carriers near me (Verizon, Covad..) say that I am too far from a CO.
Do they not share COs? How was Northpoint able to get me a circuit but no one else can? Any explaination would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!!!! |

| Yes northpoint would have been using the same Verison's CO. What could be the case is that Verizen took so many customers from other Northpoint ISPs that they no longer have any ports in the CO to hook your line up too. (What or local Bell monopoly does is reserve ports for customers of their ISP, so I can't get DSL from telocity but if I call PacBell/SBC I could get it)
Covad may just not be in the CO near you, but Verizon definitely would be. |

| reply to Anon Not knowing where you are limits our ability to help; however, I had the exact same situation. In my case, Verizon has apparently 'temporarily' closed the CO nearest to me, therefore, Telocity could no longer provide me with service (and, for that matter, neither could Verizon) (even though Hudson County is just chock full of appropriate CO's). Earthlink said that they could, but given that OptimumOnline also could, for the same price, I elected to go with cable. Download speeds have been anywhere from 3-12 times faster. So, at this point, I'd advise you to go cable if you can... |
