Packet8 Codecs and voice quality

Packet8 has 5 settings for voice codecs, G.723 comes as default but you can change it in the DTA web configuration page I changed mine to G.729 with 10ms Packetization and Silence Suppression on and the result was increased voice quality, I have DSL with Verizon and the G.729 is just perfect, I know that if I have to use dialup I should change it back to G.723.

Make sure your incoming calls still work.

Just the IP address of the DTA which can be found by dialing 012-0003 on your phone.

Hey guys, I've had Packet 8 for about 2 months now. I've been reading a lot of these posts regarding Packet 8, and I've got a problem. Every time I try to connect to my DTA, the page doesn't show correctly. I've attached a screenshot of what I see on my screen. This is from multiple pc's too.

Thanks for any info you can give me!

How are we going to do the firmware flash? I tried the using IP 4.42.235.170 TFTP server but no response. Is there anyone that successfully flashed a DTA310?

I did with no problem, you must get into the web setup page 1st, with the kind of error that Mikeyd13 has there is no way to firmware update, it looks like he got a problem with his router setting may be it is set to block specific IP range, he needs to get to his router setup page and find how to turn access to the DTA setup page, If he can't find any, then he should try his DTA on another network and see if he can access the DTA setup page, if not he should asks Packet8 to replace it.

If you can get to the setup page but can't do firmware update this may be due to packet8 hold the current update may be to replace it with a better one, they are doing changes daily to improve the service and this causing a lot of the information we say here to be outdated, for example what I said about G.729 codec earlier doesn't work anymore.

I know PACKET8 is suppose to be releasing firmware 1111
in November with call waiting, 3-way calling and the
message light fix BUT -- what firmware are you running
now??

Is the current still 1109?

Greets to all us Packet8 folks... I still feel I'm ripping
them off paying $19.95 with all the calls to Canada I make.
Guess someone at BellSouth & 10-10-987 is working on making up the lost revenue from me...

Re: Packet8 "unlimited" limit

Sorry for off-topic.

I recently called Packet8 Customer Service and asked what is the real "unlimited" limit when they start getting concerned about usage? Actually I talked to Patrick. The answer was 2000 min, when they would start looking into call details and switch to business plan. I reasonably asked what if my wife calls her girlfriend for like 1.5-2.5 hours a day and would it be considered a business call. The answer was the same as before.

Did someone went way over 2000 min, like 3000-3500 mins and have any problems?

Re: Packet8 Codecs and voice quality

vladl, that is way off topic, but it is an excellent point.

Why don't you just start a new thread on that issue?

I frecuently check for updates for my DTA and at one time last month I got 1110 but then after a few weeks I tried the firmware update and got downgraded to 1109.

@charterga.net

Did you notice any difference in operation when they
downgraded your firmware from 1110 to 1109???

Interesting...

I didn't reboot the DTA, just made the changes...should I have rebooted it?...
UPDATE
with the new firmware and call forwarding the phone doesn't ring now at my DTA but does forward (ring) to my Lan Line, I switched back to default codec as well...hmm ...

If you don't reboot the DTA, it may still using G.723, reboot it to give it a real test

Mine usually did not work after codec change and rebooting and I had to reset the DTA.
