| [SRS] When will DW6000 be made public/upgrade promotion?
Anybody know when this unit will be avaiable to purchase. Looking for a picture of it, is it just one modem with rx and tx together. I hope direcway or var/lincsat will have a upgrade trade in option. Will this be the new unit that will be shipped with all new kits.

Sitting on needles, eh? We all hope to see it soon here in Canada of course. But if it's handled like the DW4020, they (LinCsat) may still insist on testing the unit, by the time the first DW6000 show up on eBay. Sorry about the sarcasm, but there is a DW4020 on eBay right now and still not much of a sales pitch for it on the LinCsat website. Which is good in a way. The lack of information has kept me from wasting my money on a Windows machine or the 'DW4020 Tinkerjob', as neither was an acceptable solution, for me anyway. I bet a lot more of the 4020 units will go cheap on eBay, after people see the DW6000 released. So when it shows up in the States, I hope they will have a good supply and that it's truly plug & play. Yes I'm on needles also and very close to offering a REWARD for the first unit north of 60° or even the border! Keep the (gold)pan, just sell me the modem!

| Re: [SRS] When will DW6000 be made public/upgrade promotion? My angle is as follows:
The bleeding edge technology is getting cheaper and cheaper, we have DirecPC, One way satellite systems, Direcway, Two way satellite systems (DW3000, DW4000, DW4020) and soon DW6000.
This is great news for those who want a less cost solution for their broadband woes. Amen
Again the consumer must be knowledgeable on what they buy, but in the long run this technology got cheaper. -- Canadian C-Com DiRECWAY Dealer/VAR; DW4020; G11,990Mhz Vertical; 62 RSL,66.82.10.41 ,1250Mhz H;, 4.0.1.28, Satmex 5, DW4000 , G11 1350Mhz, Vertical DW4000; 4.0.3.9; Yes all three services and waiting for the DW6000 replacement DW4020 appliance!!

| Re: [SRS] When will DW6000 be made public/upgrade promotion? David, The post above yours shows the DW6000 from the front, right or am I wrong? Or does the DW6040 look the same as the DW6000? Just wonder if someone's mistaken, with the pix title.
The other thing. The moderators seem to be quite on edge about someone breaking the Beta Test NDA, understandably. I'd love to hear more, but don't want the topics locked, if someone asks the wrong question.
My question to you would be, whether the DW6000 is truly Plug & Play. If it were, and if it came available as a package only from DW in the States, I'd like to get one, even if that means wasting the dish. I am set up with the DW4000 and my 'dream come true' would be a simple exchange of the modem. So my main question is, if this can be done without installing anything into the DW6000 from a Windows PC, or the re-commission thing. I think the exact install procedure would interest the folks around here. -- Mike | SRS, LinCsat, 1.80m dish, G11/990, signal 87-94, 4.0.3.9 SP-C, BE, W2k Host, Apple Powerbook OS 10.2.6. Problem is folks, system will not be commissioned on satellite you're currently pointed to. New SBC will go onto G3C(95w). You'll need a repoint/XP(install).

Sorry, don't buy it! Spoke to LinCsat the other day and the DW4020 is available on G11 for some time now. Installers, correct me if I am wrong. I would expect the same to be true for the DW6000. If it's true what you are saying, then it will be a bummer for all who are not on G3R already, and may not be able to repoint. I cut down half of the forest around here to get on G11 and if I have to do all this repointing s... again, it would tick me right off. Also heard that new outdoor hardware is required, which would make this modem less attractive to me than the DW4020. One would think they could produce a modem (pre-programmed if need be) to just replace the DW4000, no matter which satellite it is pointed to.
My enthusiasm about it is shrinking by the day. -- Mike | SRS, LinCsat, 1.80m dish, G11/990, signal 87-94, 4.0.3.9 SP-C, BE, W2k Host, Apple Powerbook OS 10.2.6, Renewable Energy System

| Re: [SRS] DW6000 is Fantastic! Gentlemen- eventually the DW6000 will be available on all birds but not now. In the case of the 4020 it only became available on G11 6 months after G4R and Sat Mex5 . Each satellite requires Hughes to install a gateway that supports the equipment. There will be an upgrade program for the DW4000 but I don't think you will see it till late first quarter next year. As far a changing equipment the transmitter on new units is different as it is set up for the eventual launch of a dual in-route-256K burstable- (2-3- months) but you will need a .98M dish to support dual in-route-same as 4020. Clearly everyone will get to upgrade over a 12 month time frame but those who want it now will have to set up on G3R- no problem with footprint other than northern Canada- slightly bigger dishes. Through which VAR if I may ask? Is this a restriction from the VAR or Hughes?
Also does it apply to upgrades? Maybe you should have asked them, what's happening with existing DW4000 customers. I paid $650 to get DirecwWay (modems, dish, installation). So this would seem to imply that they're pricing it the same as the current DW4000 offering?
But what I want to know is what will the DW6000 cost as a retrofit. And will they require a professional install.

I would imagine that it would reduce a lot of technical support calls. Heck they should probably just about give it away.
