| Re: Should still use a software firewall with a router Most routers only provide inbound firewall-like protection through their NAT features. They won't do anything to prevent a trojan or other malware from connecting out if it manages to make it on to your system. For that reason, it's a good idea to run software firewall to monitor outbound connections, even with a router.
