| Please post your SMC reflash results
I am estimating about 30 of you guys have successfully reflashed the MSN DSL 1000, and one person has reported a bad flash, which could have been caused by many different things, including user error.
Please post your results, and make it simple and short.
If it worked, post "success." If it didn't work, post "didn't work." If you couldn't try it because of USB limitations with your computer, post "legacy compatibility."
I'd like to see what kind of success rate people are having. |

| reply to PolarBearWY There are 6 millions options. I left ALL of the options to default, including the VCI/VPI which were already set correctly. 0,32 or 32,0 (I don't remember which is which).
Care to list all of your option settings? It would take a bit of time, but one of us might be able to help. Did you change any of the settings? |

@uswest.net | reply to sclark10000 The keycodes are case-specific, so make sure you have the upper and lower case letters from MSN. The first tech I talked to didn't tell me which letters were capitals, so my modem would never authenticate. |

| Another thing a tech told me once was that you need to use the SHIFT key for successive capital letters, and not the CAPS LOCK.
Personally, I think that's horse shot. We're typing in a text field. An 'A' is an 'A' regardless of whether you hit SHIFT-A, CAPS LOCK then A, or copy/paste an 'A' from another place. But, that's what they said. I have actually heard that more than once. |

| I'm working on something like that. Basically, it will be instructions from the original post, just more clear.
For it to be a FAQ, I will need someone to start asking questions "frequently."
Edited to add...
I just noticed the date I joined DSLReports is 0220 2002. [text was edited by author 2003-09-19 10:44:03] |

| Actually, I just read the original post by JEFE and it's just fine, IMO. The only thing he really didn't make clear was the fact that shorting the jumper inside the modem casing is a necessity. Between his original post, and NOTHINGness's post about the actual flash procedure, I think they should be ok. Several questions have been asked in that thread and it is now 4 pages long. sortofageek, if you'd rather have something else available, let me know. |

| reply to sclark10000 I am having this same problem!
It was working fine then one day it just stopped. MSN tells me the DSL is trained, but on my side its not authenticating. Giving me the "Invalid Username / Password" "Authentication Failed" error in the Log.
MSN told me the keycodes do not change. Is it a possibility that they did? What can i do? |

But my Ping types are extremly high 90 - 100+... |

Thanks, Steve.
I abandoned the thread because people were using it as a discussion thread. All I really wanted was to give people an idea of the success rate.
Let's let this thread die. |

As per the SMC flash instructions, you may mess things up using an NTFS system during the flash. |
