Re: Apple (retail) Store

I'm just psyched the new store will be in Tysons Corner, VA - about a 10 minute drive from my house! Sweet. Maybe I'll do some moonlighting...

I know I would...I'm up for a change of pace. I wonder if they will offer courses and seminars, especially for kids? The younger members of our fora here show us that the "I started coding when I was 12" syndrome, which I had and I'm sure some of you had, is still alive and well. It'd be cool to teach a theory class to youngsters. Maybe even arrange for them to get school credits.

I did the Demo Days twice - I don't know if I sold anything but it is funny to get grilled about a product by someone who doesn't realize you are a volunteer....

In Chicago there are a few CompUSAs around mostly in the suburbs. There is also a great Micro Center. However, that totals up to about 4 sizable retail places to buy Macs. Not good enough.

Everyone just goes to Best Buy and gets a cheapo HP, having never even seen a Mac.

Certainly a side job there would be sweet and probably beat anything else you might be doing in some spare hours, even a part time job for someone in this thread at an Apple Store would be sweet.

Take care.

In the outset, please let me thank you all for posting within this thread.

As we approach the May 15th date for key people to visit some mystery that Apple Computer, Inc. has to show to them and as we get closer to May 19th the expected date of the unveiling of the first retail version of The Apple Store, I'll continue to post up regarding this topic and expect that it be among the top 8 Mac DSL threads in DSLR.

Once more thank you.

That segway thread which was started all late (after we here broke the news) was started by a Dell computer owner (of all people) no wonder that thread reads all PC pro. All mention of The Apple (retail) Store continues on here...

I've got no problem with PC-positive people. It's the Apple-negative people that bug me. (Heck, all my daytime posts are from a PC!)

From messages posted at MacCentral from all around the world, nearly everyone wants a retail version of The Apple Store in their neck of woods.

I don't want one in my neck of the woods... I want one a few miles away in Delaware, where there's no sales tax! 6% of a Ti Powerbook is mucho $$$

That's not so bad...$1.00 US = $1.56 Canadian, then add 7% GST AND 8% PST...UGH, pricing is ridiculous in Canada. I think I'll wait to get the G4 Ti used....sigh! Anyone hear if Buffalo,NY or Toronto, Canada are possibilities for future Apple Stores? It would be worth the drive for me.

I have not heard of any CAN stores for it seems that Steve Jobs is concentrating first in the USA however expansion into CAN would come through Apple Computer, Inc. Canada. Stay tuned...

Thanks you two for posting, see you around.

Can someone explain to me the following:

1) Apple makes a $43M profit, beats street;
2) Dell lays off huge # workers
3) Apple releases new computer iBook, gets good reviews
4) Apple announces new retail stores; Dell announces JACK.

and..

AAPL stock price falls because of Dell. Now why wouldn't any intelligent person think that Dell would go down and AAPL up? I mean, doesn't this mean that AAPL is gaining ground and Dell losing? I guess I'm just a dumba$$ when it comes to the financial stuff. (No I didn't buy any AAPL).

Well, not that I'm suggesting anything ILLEGAL, but it ought to be no problem to avoid that GST/PST thing, particularly on a PowerBook. Not much you can do about the exchange rate.

That's just the street, Johnny. Stockholders who don't understand the industry. It's good in a way, because it's a plastic falloff. Good time to buy is when the idiots sell low.
