[request] New Features for Old

For my new feature request, I'd like to request an old feature: Put the [Logout] button back at the top of the page please.

And, yes, even as many times as I've hit that button when I intended to do something else (usually start a new post) - I'm just really going to miss it not being where it's supposed to be!

Re: New Features for Old

what, are you trying to pre-empt the complainers?

search needs to stand out more, logout is hardly ever used, I think its ok at the tail end of any page..

Maybe add a new icon on our nav bar (I know mine looks bad, but I think you get the idea).

I'd say its pretty much an individual thing so I'm neither for or against it. I never log out anyway but then again, I don't share my computer.

acehyde-->one question, what icon would be interpreted as "search" with a very low margin of error? That's the only thing I can think of that would make using an icon less appealing than "search". Even using "search" is too easy to miss as it is

Actually I was thinking the X would be used as the logoff icon, maybe use something along this line for a search icon?

Found another one that might be better.

I hardly ever log out unless I am testing something. I wouldn't care if it was only on your "page".

I just noticed that. What I really want is the logout button on the posting page to be moved somewhere else. I click that by accident a few times while clicking Preview Again.

I'm REALLY having a difficult time fathoming that..

Oh.. ok I always use the buttons below the text window. I thought he was referring to the new placement of the log out button. I stand corrected.

I know what he meant. Abovre the post area, first line, is if you are not.... logout

the 'logout' link was positioned right below the preview-again button.

Anyway that is not a link anymore so problem solved.

Never hurts to get in the first shot, and yes, I kind of figure it's probably a less used feature. I just try to make sure I always log out - even though during the log-in I try to remember to clear the remember me box. Just don't want to take chances on someone impersonating me .

If you want "Search to stand out you can use this

I figured you moved the log out button so we would have to stay here.

Some of us actually do use public computers that we log out from when we're not at home. I hadn't even noticed that the button had switched, because I haven't been logged in yet in the lab that I normally use over the past couple of days. Logout being at the top seemed much more intuitive to me than it being at the bottom. That's a lot of extraneous scrolling that I'd rather not go through. I think in my entire time using the site I accidentally logged out twice.

Sometimes it feels like it's at the point where things are being changed just to change them, without any genuine reason behind doing so. Just an observation, but I think sometimes things are better left the way they are.

I don't mind either way. The only reason reason I could come up with for keeping it at the top is because that is where the Register link / Login button is.
Other than that, it's habit and people will get used to it after a while.

noooooooooo. we dont want anymore moving things on the top. the annoying <| new news and <| new poll is enough and theres a way to make those go away. now i would welcome a static image of a magnifying glass with search on it.

You know, the funny thing is...

I've been conditioned to seeing a gray bar at the top of the page.

Ever since the gray bar was removed, I'd click the "Logout" button.

I was conditioned to thinking I wasn't logged-in whenever I saw that gray bar missing.

So, in effect, it's better to have it on the bottom, in order to avoid accidental logouts.

I think the logout button was better placed at the top. I *sign* the idea of having it placed there.

I use the "remember my password" on PCs I only use. On a public PC I would not check it.

One consistent place is sufficient. Its rarely needed.
