Speedstream 5200 - More User Profile Info

I was reading through some posts and thought I'd try playing around with user profiles again and found some more interesting things.

NOTE: The following information/procedure is only relevant on newer versions of 5200 firmware that are capable of accessing the Profile Wizard, and may not be the same on all units - For users of Bell firmware, substitute 10.0.0.1 for the IP address used in this guide.

There are three user profiles that are hidden by default from the 5200 configuration. These hidden profiles will not show up even if you access the Profile Wizard. So what are they, how do you access them, and what do you do with them? Here's the deal. Even though they don't show up, they can still be edited by using the profile edit URL that corresponds to the profile number. They are:

Profile 0 - Admin profile - »192.168.254.254/pfwizardj.cgi?co···retain=f

This is the Admin profile. The profile that is created the very first time you log in to your router and have to supply a username and password. Editing information in here will also change the info in the Admin User option under Setup and vice versa. Here you can give your Admin profile access to the full list of router options.

Profile 1 - Telco profile - »192.168.254.254/pfwizardj.cgi?co···retain=f

As I haven't seen a way to log in to this profile (as it's hidden) this wouldn't seem like anything too interesting. Though being the Telco profile, the username and password here (which should be the same), are the username and password for 5200's Telnet server. An interesting effect here is, if you change the username and password here, you've also just changed the Telnet username and password as well. You can make the Telnet username and password whatever you want. You can also give your Telco profile access to the full list of router options.

Profile 2 - Default profile - »192.168.254.254/pfwizardj.cgi?co···retain=f

This is your Default profile. The regular profile you get when you access your router and aren't logged in as Admin. This profile may look blank (no username and no password) and you might think you've done something wrong, but you haven't. This profile is already pre-configured, but you will have to create at least a username before you can go click next through to the rest of the options. In here you can give your Default profile access to the full list of router options.

Now you can get full access to all options without the need for extra profiles, logins, or static profile IP addresses.

FYI - The reason these don't show up, besides the obvious, it that while the Profile Wizard shows entries for profiles 0-5, in reality, the Profile Wizard is really showing entries for profiles 3-8.

As usual, I hope this information is of use. There's really nothing in this guide that you can do to cause problems, except for maybe editing your Admin username and password and then forgetting them, but be cautious anyway.

Enjoy!!

Great detective work. Now what's the latest Firmware?

Update_E240
or
Upgrade_E240

Notice the difference? I'm still checking things out.

Still on the case, but so far, just the usual suspects

somebody's gotta hex the firmware .exe, it contains ftp password, I messed up so I had to reload the firmware, and I did netstat for the heck of it, and the data was sent through ftp.

btw buggage, you are efficient's worst nightmare, keep it up

I take it you missed this thread? »5200 Snooping

Like I said before, the user name and password would be set at random when the flash takes place. You will need to use a packet sniffer when you run the update to find out your user name and password. Once the update has finished the user name and password is no longer valid.
