Vonage Lowers Base-Price

Hello DSLreports Friends,
We are very excited to announce our new Residential price plans that will take effect on September 20, 2003. The new monthly base prices are:

·Premium Unlimited Plan
$34.99/month
·Additional Premium Unlimited Lines
$29.99/month
·Unlimited Local Plan
$24.99/month
·Additional Unlimited Local Lines
$19.99/month

Also effective on September 20, 2003 Vonage will begin charging all customers a Regulatory Recovery Fee of $1.50 per phone number. This fee will be used to fund Vonage’s contributions to the federally mandated Universal Service Fund, various State Universal Service Funds and other state regulatory fees. Although Vonage is not a regulated telecom carrier, we are subject to various fees that support services like local number portability. The Regulatory Recovery fee is applied after the 3% Federal Excise Tax and New Jersey State Sales Tax (New Jersey residents only) to each phone number associated with your account, including primary voice lines, secondary voice lines, fax lines, Toll Free Plus numbers and Virtual Phone Numbers.

The new, lower price plans and Regulatory Recovery Fee will be reflected in your next billing cycle.

Many of you may be curious as to why we are breaking out the Regulatory Recovery Fee in this manor. We arrived at this decision by determining this to be the only way to accurately portray the regulatory fees we pay into such federal- and state-mandated funds. We believe that this new categorization of fees paid by our customers will help dispel the misconception within the industry that we do not pay into various universal service funds and the like.

Thank you for your continued support and loyalty. If you have any questions, please email us at dslreports@vonage.com.

Sincerely,
Ingrid Pettigrew

hey vonage folks---------------how about a $20/mo plain jane plan for low volume users? until you beat verizon's base line price, i have no reason to look in your direction. at least packet8 has hit the $19.99 level which is rather enticing. granted $6 is not a ton of money, but i prefer to keep it in my pocket when i'm getting the same thing for less money. thanks 4 considering. bub

I'm low volume and I already pay $20 for my 2nd line

A Regional/250 LD for a $5 drop would suit me okay though.

(Some) Lower Prices... net INCREASE for many!

Well... $1.00 decrease on "local" lines plus the $1.50 "regulatory fee" still equals a 50 cent INCREASE, according to my calculator.

Better news on the residential unlimited plan... a net $3.50 decrease.

Sucks to be us business users though... a $3.00 INCREASE (for the main and fax lines).

Forgive me if I'm not celebrating in the streets or anything... my total Vonage bill just went UP $4.00/mo.

Dan

If this is the case and Vonage is charging the customer $1.50, I would think they would change this part of the TOS

1.9 Number Transfer on Service Termination
Vonage may, at the Company’s discretion, release the telephone number used in connection with your Service provisioned by Vonage to your new service provider, if they are able to accept it, upon your termination of the Service. Vonage will do so provided (i) your account has been terminated and (ii) your Vonage account is completely current including payment for all charges and disconnect fees and (iii) you request the transfer upon terminating your account.

I don't think they should have the discretion to not allow you to take your number with your.

Personally I don't think $1.50 a month is a bad deal if you get full number portability. But, I agree with others that I don't like the trend that it starts. The next fee to be added will probably be a 911 fee.

Their TOS usually seems to lag policy changes. The refund of termination fee is one example.

Vonage Lowers Base-Price (Well, not really)

Hmmm, I saw the thread topic and got excited...only to find out my Unlimited Regional plan went UP not DOWN.

I seem to remember a song in the early 90's that said "Don't believe the Hype!"
