I would expect it would require an account or perhaps a phone card much as it is with payphones today. Perhaps it will be like dialup where you just "dial in" to your provider. Or as cell phones are, set your stuff to roam. They could even provide some emergency services this way. Contact to emergency services?

Like most airport and other hotspots, they probably have time limits.

If people didn't complain about wireless providers wanting to build cell towers "in their backyard". Then there would be more/better coverage. |

| They make them into fake palm trees out here (where there are many). You have to look twice to realize it's a cell tower.

It definitely gives Verizon a competitive advantage. Once they put those things up there's basically no monthly cost. So if it reduces churn on their DSL, that's a good reason to keep it free. |
