Re: Cool

It definitely gives Verizon a competitive advantage. Once they put those things up there's basically no monthly cost. So if it reduces churn on their DSL, that's a good reason to keep it free.

If Dial-up users can get Wi-Fi access free from Verizon, those that are living close to Wi-Fi hot spots will have rather cheap DSL level access (up to 3Mbps) rather cheap
Like most airport and other hotspots, they probably have time limits.

not true...It depends on your perception of free.

I'm goina like this, going from a totally secure and tracable network to totally insecure, untracable network

damn its not one of those free wireless internet

I would expect it would require an account or perhaps a phone card much as it is with payphones today. Perhaps it will be like dialup where you just "dial in" to your provider. Or as cell phones are, set your stuff to roam. They could even provide some emergency services this way. Contact to emergency services?

You would still get the radiation beamed into the brain.

Of course the service is only available where DSL service is available? This clearly eliminates a lot of coverage. If you do not travel anywhere outside of 18,000 feet from the CO then you are good?

Wow, you mean I'm the only one in all of DSLR with an HDTV and Linksys AP?!? Geez, what's next for me, a super exclusive Camry? Or should I splurge on a toaster that cooks 4 slices at a time? Please, give your crayons a rest.

I certainly wouldn't bitch if a telco offered a deal for bundled xDSL and Wi-Fi for $50 (eg $15-$20 than DSL alone). I understand there is a cost involved, but what I see on the horizon will be separate services (like land & cell), each with their somewhat hefty price.

If you could get a wifi phone (size of cell) that would be sweet! Not to mention no more radiation being beamed into your brain... Also say you had bell service and a wifi phone they should offer free local calls or whatever as if you were using your home land line.(You guys are thinking about iNET and using laptops to d/l stuff which would be vary expensive) Think about all the other cool uses it could have.

One cannot SEE the good things in life.

I'm seeing it right now, Bucs@Falcons in HDTV, typing away on a 54g equipped laptop between plays. Life is good.

I think that is the case with most companies, telco, power or otherwise.

It's free for Verizon DSL/Dial up users in NYC right now..
That gives Verizon at least SOME competitive edge against the Cable guys...
They needed something.
