Assigning a non-routable (192.168.x.y) IP to your NIC
Hi, I'm not quite sure about the reason for the error message. You mentioned IPing in to 192.168.0.1 - do you have Webhop or Webhop Pro installed? I'm not certain but that could explain the error message.

However if you want to assign a static IP to your network card, here's how in Windows XP:

• Click START -> Control Panel -> Network & Internet Connections -> Network Connections

• You may need to specify a primary and secondary DNS servers later on. I suggest before starting, fork to CMD, type "ipconfig/all" and write down your primary and secondary DNS addresses to be filled in later.

• Highlight the Ethernet card your Westell is connected to and select 'Properties'

• Highlight the "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) " binding and click "Properties" again.

• Mark off "Use the following IP address" .

• Specify 192.168.0.1 (or any other non routable IP) and a subnet mask of 255.255.255.0 .

• Fill in your primary and secondary DNS servers from the earlier step.

• Click OK a few times.

HTH

If not, have you tried using both versions of the software?

»djesigns.com/upload/westell_51x_···icon.exe [larger in file size] or »https://www.westell.com/content/download···stic.exe

The software should not need a static IP assigned and will do it by itself if needed.

B90-36R515/516's don't have an http interface, at least that I know of, unless possibly you have Webshare/Webshare Pro [ sorry never played with one of those. ]

Try »192.168.1.254 or »launchmodem (this would be applicable to the A90-210030-04 that BellSouth provides, or the 2100 routers directly from Westell.

Here's more info (if it's of any help) »AT&T Southeast Forum FAQ »How do I open/forward ports on a Westell?

You mentioned you're using a Westell B90-36R516. I have two of it's siblings, and to the best of my knowledge, the only way to get stats from them is to use the Modem Browser.

UNLESS - Do you have Webshare or Webshare pro installed?

When you run the browser, you just get one tab, right?

If so hit CTRL-ALT-F7! (the magic keystroke!)

If on the other hand, the program displays "N/A" for certain entries when running with all status entries visible, that's due to some models not providing the said metric.

There's no freeware copy, if you have such a thing I'd love to see it!

Refer to other posts on the subject. The Verizon forum FAQ has a lot of other info I and others like Dr. Dan and MikePD accumulated.

Best wishes
