Luther, OK | I think it is great news. It just makes Packet8 even more flexible, and gives them an opportunity to complete calls outside the PSTN and (presumably) save some money by doing it.
I thought Vonage would be the first to do this, but they have seemed to drag their feet on this type of interconnection.
This gives people the opportunity to try out VoIP with little or no cost (SipPhone.com and FWD) and then graduate into a paid VoIP model such as Packet8.
With Packet8 lowering their rates, then fixing the Caller ID issue, and now implementing interconnection agreements with other VoIP carriers, I think things are looking up for P8. |

I'm with Cam on this one, as I stated in another thread. If only the rest of the VOIP guys would do this VON,VP etc.
I think then we will see things in a much better light maybe when in comes time for the reg's to be handed down if those above compines can say "well 80% of our traffic doesn't even touch PSTN". Something to think about.
Whats interesting though is that "personal experenice" IP calls "VON to VON" are not as good as say me using my P8 to vonage. I have no idea why that is but it is interesting none the less.

| P8 and FWD started testing months ago. 
Fall 2003 VON turned into one of the best events we ever produced and the largest since Spring 2001 VON in Phoenix. There was a positive buzz in the air.

The way it looks FWD and SipPhone users without having any extra hardware will be able to call Packet8, also they will be able to join Packet8, I think it may be at lower/month rate since Packet8 will not supply any hardware, Packet8 users will be able to use their DTA-310 and dial FWD or SipPhone users. |

I look forward to that. I am disappointed with the FWD/iCH capabilities.
It seems that FWD to iCH Calling Card is all that is possible so far.
I like FWD an think these new connectivity alliances are the starting point to connectivity that will one day obsolete PSTN calling.

Are you saying its **333-IP Address ???
I have not had success calling FWD softphone from ATA using iCH **393-FWD# does not go through.
I have not had success calling iCH ATA using FWD softphone (X-Lite) **333-iCH# 404 error. (No DID on iCH, just iCH number.)
Several emails to iCH about it.
FWD is great using *1-800 number to Vonage, and to regular work 800 number.
If there are success stories, I'd like to hear, but didn't intend to hijack this thread though.

This would be for FWD to iCH dialing only not iCH to FWD. Haven't tried if myself.
It would not be the IP address but maybe the iCH userID or that ever is used to dial between two iCH users.
