ieee1394Premium join:2001-08-25 Washington | Re: New page on Adelphia's website Cool. I would also like to point out that in the Washington Post this morning (business section) there was an article that stated Adelphia announced higher speeds of 3000/256 for all of its subscribers by the end of the year.
These are the kinds of confirmation that were needed.
Now, I would gather that if we're not hitting our caps right now (I still rarely see higher than 1200kbps down) we're unlikely to be able to achieve the new speeds either. So buyer beware: the new service levels still carry the disclaimer that speeds are "up to" and not guaranteed. |

Pretty much like all residential services.

You'll probably see an increase in UL speed from 128, but simply changing an md5 on the dhcp server, WILL NOT RAISE DL SPEEDS!
I get very near my cap limits now, so I'm looking forward to the 256 UL speed, if only as a curiosity to see how it affects my gaming. |

A quote from the above Adelphia page:
"Adelphia does not guarantee speeds, as the speed of the Adelphia Broadband Service provided to you at your site will vary depending upon your computer and associated equipment, internet traffic and associated equipment, and other factors." |

A similar statement has been in the Power Link ToS for at least a couple of years now.
Its nothing new.
SBC/Yahoo DSL, Speakeasy DSL, Charter Pipeline, Comcast, TimeWarner, even OOL, and every other residential ISP have very similar disclaimers. -- Adelphia - Is it working now? [text was edited by author 2003-10-03 13:11:27] |

nicnerd join:2003-04-01 Round Hill, VA | reply to MacLeech I do not usually achieve even 30% of my supposed DL cap (I tend to be in about the .6 range), but I don't care because it is fast enough for me on the DL. I do encounter issues with the ultra low UL cap (128), so I hope that I will see a performance boost on that.
I thank Mac, Hob, Jack, and the rest for getting this info out to us. |

That's .6 (I guess you mean 600 kpbs download)?
Your recorded speed tests don't reflect it. -- Adelphia - Is it working now? |

It isn't that big of an issue but seems kind of odd, as others in my area haven't had such a change occur.

You're right, it's not. I'm just emphasizing this fact so that those with under performing service now won't think that anything will change because of these announcements.
If you're not getting 3000 down now, you will not get 3000 down when the caps are changed even if you upgrade to the 4000/512 service. |

| reply to MacLeech Question...Does the cable modem make an impact on the speed? I still have the Surfboard SB3100. I've read that older modems can have trouble with the new cap. Do I have to get an updated modem (i'm renting from adelphia)? -- When I feel my end is near, When I feel the Reaper's here, Crackling fire i can hear. When I feel my end is near, When I feel the Reaper's here,I watch the demon's dance around my tears. |

 | I also have a Surfboard SB3100 so thats a good question thats been on my mind also.
I do have 1 other question, what is the "25 Mb network storage / 100 Mb network storage" for? Since it says "e-mail" I assume thats not for my web space? |
|
 | reply to ExitWound Your modems are periodically updated by adelphia through boot files, ect. when the need arrises. To my knowledge (and yes, things do change so dont quote me) as the changes and upgrades go through the modems will also be sent updated files.
Type of modem is generally of little significance, with the exception of course of the sb4200 (I believe) that has an upload issue that is being looked into at the moment.

Hec, the 4200 doesn't have the upload issue, it has a Denial of Service/disconnect issue with specific versions of firmware.
The 4100 and 4101 have the upload issues and they also have a hardware issue which prevents firmware updates in certain situations with software version 4.0.12. said by Boris7: I also have a Surfboard SB3100 so thats a good question thats been on my mind also.
As far as the 3100s, I haven't seen anything specific with them, so at this point I would wait until your area's caps were increased. If your modem doesn't reach the speeds your neighbors achive with another type of modem, then I would ask for a replacement. said by Boris7: I do have 1 other question, what is the "25 Mb network storage / 100 Mb network storage" for? You're right, the space limits listed are for email storage, not web space. -- Adelphia - Is it working now? [text was edited by author 2003-10-03 15:01:34] |

First, find another provider in your area who will sell you that much bandwidth (4000/512) for personal use. Then find it for a cheaper price.
When your done, post what you find. -- Adelphia - Is it working now? [text was edited by author 2003-10-03 16:16:26] |

when my speeds changed to 2000/256,it would cost 90 or 95 dollars from $57 to upgrade to 3000/384 [text was edited by author 2003-10-03 17:15:26] |
