can someone please tell me how to upload a picture now that I am using SBC DSL. I want to be able to post a link that will take users directly to the .jpg. I don't want to use the briefcase or photo album. Thanks. |

| Mike, it's my understanding that there is no "direct linking". I do not use any SBC/Yahoo stuff, this is just what I have read throughout these forums. I sure someone will come along with more information for you. -- Have a Happy Day, Steve. |

| reply to Mike00 You'll find that many of the hosts have hotlink protection enabled which will prevent you from uploading files and linking to them from some outside web site such as dslreports.com for example.
The company I work for, amzweb.com, has the ability to turn hotlink protection on and off on a customer by customer basis so might want to look at something like that. Would probably be the only suggestion ...
Otherwise on your SBC Yahoo account, you're going to have to provide links to web pages on your site that displays the pictures instead of linking to the pictures directly. Doing that is usually allowed at most places that have hotlink protection enabled. |

| reply to Mike00 Mike, the reason that direct linking to any particular jpg won't work is that the link addresses change over time. So it will work for a short while, but after some duration (I don't know how long) the address to that picture will change and the link will be broken. I don't use SBC/Yahoo stuff either and my only experience is from reading about it. |

| reply to Mike00 The Geocities link on dsl.sbc.yahoo.com has a tool for uploading files to the root area of your web space. However, I want more control than that.
So, I use "WS_FTP LE" (»download.com.com/3000-2160-10018···acy=cnet) to manage the contents of the web space provided by SBC. The setup is: HostName=pages.sbcglobal.net HostType=Automatic detect UserID= Password= Anonymous=
Once there, you can add/delete folders, add/delete/rename files. Basically all the things you can do with Windows Explorer. The LE version of the program is free of individual users. |
