Do you think that there is any possibility that our area will get the i-guide before the end of the year because some areas right now on the i-guide posts are saying that their getting the guide now on some boxes. If we do get it next year I hope we get it in January. |

Thanks It is most likely that your box is not polling which in turn should mean that your box should not be seeing VOD or PPV at this time. It is becoming a big deal when boxes do not poll back to the Head-end and we can see which ones do or do not. Just schedule something ASAP and it most likely won't be a bad box if you are not seeing anything wrong with it even though we can tell something is wrong.

Thanks, Mike. Actually, I just let the TV scan for them and no digitals are being recognized at all, A-side or B-side. I forget how high it scans, but it is definitely into the 100s. I might try direct tuning to the ones you mentioned, though...thanks!

now if you are looking for the channels to be 4-1, 5-1 etc. they are not there. in rowlett (garland area) fox is on 109-1, nbc is 109-2, cbs 80-3, i think. abc is 80-1, wb is 81-3, i think. |

Yes people No New Guide. I just heard that the new I-Guide is being postponed again for the Dallas area because of who knows why this time. I heard that some time early next year. Also Dallas (A/B) Line-up will not be seeing VOD yet because of some technical issues. Please don't ask what type of issues because they weren't specified. Sorry to break the bad news but all is regular with areas that are seeing VOD (For example: Garland, Frisco, McKinney, Cedar Hill, Lancaster, and some other Single Line 750Mhz plants that I might be forgetting). Don't Kill the messenger!!!

Hi Scotty...
I know that I can't view encrypted digital channels (without a CableCard, that is), but I should be able to view unencrypted digital channels since I have a QAM tuner built-in to my Mits DLP (just like I get OTA with the built-in ATSC tuner). And from what I've read, any local HDs that are carried by the cable company are supposed to be transmitted unencrypted over the wire. So even when the locals are not broadcasting in HD, just digital, I should (theoretically) be able to receive them. If they are being transmitted unencrypted, that is....again, the stuff about this being required is just hearsay. I definitely don't know that to be the case.
I've seen quite a bit of discussion on this over at AVS, but the problem is that this would be market specific. As we already know, Comcast's offerings can be quite different within various areas of the metroplex, much less across the country! I might post the question in the local HD info forum over there to see if anybody from the Plano, two-sided cable world that happens to have a built-in QAM tuner can let me know if it works for them...that might be kind of a tall order, though!
Thanks again for the input...and thanks for pointing this forum out to me over at AVS. It has been very, very helpful regarding local issues!

Well, I did a scan on the B-side last night (I had already tried the A-side earlier), and got nothing on the digital side. There is a slight chance it is a bug with my Mits...sometimes it has issues with scanning digitals. I might do a reset on it tonight and try again. Of course, this could also just be another 'benefit' of being on the dual cable system.  It's good to know that Comcast is working on cleaning up AT&T's mess, though....

How frustrated are you with VOD not up yet and that they have the nerve to taunt us with Channel 1....:) I know I'm ready to see it happen sooner than later. Are we all still thinking that the Dec 16 launch date?

There are many people over at AVS that say they can watch HD locals on there comcast cable without the use of a set top box... If I remember correctly the only channels you don't get are InHD 1 and 2 and maybe the Discovery Channel... Do a search over at AVS and I bet you find your answer. |
