Re: [COMCAST] HDTV in Dallas MetroPlex

it's kind of disappointing that there's absolutely no word InHD, Cinemax, Starz at all.

all those channels have been on the air and *are* on other comcast systems as we speak and the ones that don't have it are getting it on 12/22

as for HDNet, is that really going to happen? i've been under the impression that comcast isn't interested because InHD is the same thing, even though it's not

ah well i think i'll stick to my OTA tuner till they get everything straightened out. even though we're such a big market, we get everything last

I am almost 100% sure that none of the 3 channels have anything broadcasting in DD 5.1. I also had an OTA receiver before it fried itself and NBC,FOX and from my cable knowledge ESPN HD DO NOT broadcast anything in DD 5.1, but CBS11 and ABC8 do broadcast almost everything in DD 5.1. So with that being said what you are seeing just plain old DD 2.0. Hope that clears you up.

I don't have experience (yet!) with the HD DD 5.1, but I did get DD 5.1 from regular digital cable in my old hometown (Lubbock, Tx), and from what I saw there only movies that had been release in DD 5.1 showed up in 5.1, evrything else, even though it was with digital audio, was regular Dolby Pro Logic. I guess if you don't have the movie channels it would be hard to find a movie in 5.1.

just curious....i too live in dallas and was wondering what type of setup you have (ie, antenna, STB, and what part of town you live in), as i am investigating the purchase of silver sensor (indoor OTA HD) antenna, samsung sir t150 or 151, and already have HD ready Mitsubishi 55" monitor. the point is, i don't necessarily want to put an antenna on my roof, nor do i want to spend 600$ on STB, hence buy older samsung model. any suggestions or wisdom you might impart? thx in advance.

I have the Samsung SIR-T151 OTA Receiver and it works pretty good, you would want to get one of the TERK inside antenna's and that should be just fine for you. Here's the website I bought mine off of: »store.yahoo.com/hypaudio/sirt151.html

By far the cheapest OTA receiver on the NET!!!

Someone posted on another board that ABC-HD had been added to his guide as of this morning, Dec.15th. He said there wasn't much listed in the lineup but I take this as a great sign that we have another HD choice.

Can anyone check it out or confirm? Any updates?

And hey pittdave I don't know when CBS is going live, hell I didn't even know that they were going to open up ABC HD?? But hey pittdave where in Dallas do you live? You sound like someone that I ran into out in the field???

kcharg, any chance those of us stuck with the crappy old A/B cable will ever be able to get rid of it, especially in the Uptown area? Also, everyone, should I just wait for the PVR boxes to come out? I currently have a fairly new Series 2 80hr TiVo that I guess I could rig up alongside the 6208 for dual recording. Any input appreciated, thanks.

major locals that is.
if WB or UPN carried anything decent, I might have considered them
PD

@airband.net

UPN has Enterprise, Jake 2.0 and a Friday movie.

WB has Gilmore Girls, One Tree Hill, Smallville, Angel, Everwood and 4 of their sitcoms in HD.

Its probably 3rd on my list of channels I would like to see us get.

CBS
Discovery
WB
InHD
Cinemax
Starz
UPN

Finally! Monday Night Football in HD! I thought the picture and sound quality were both awesome. I tell you, it's getting harder to watch shows in standard definition anymore. I'm ruined for good!

My wish list for the next addition(s) to the HD lineup for Comcast Dallas:

1. CBS
2. HDNet
3. Discovery
4. InHD
5. Cinemax/Starz
6. WB

The 6208 boxes are having problems in Dallas for some reason, something to do with it freezing while you watch live programs? I live in Garland (right outside Dallas) and have had the 6208 now about a week or two and have had NO problems whatsoever. So to answer the question they are telling us they need to get Motorola work out that problem first before they go mainstream with the 6208 boxes which they anticipate doing late January now, but anything can and will change as far as that goes.

I've heard allot of buzz around that HDnet will be next but then I've heard a little bit about PBS being the next. I for one could care less for PBS programming in HD!!! I want some Starz or Discovery in HD!!!

Well first of all I work uptown allot and some parts of Uptown are new 860 plant which is single cable but obviously you're not one of them. We've been told that Dallas as a whole will not be running a single cable system for quite some time.

@swbell.ne
Is the switch to 860 something I need to call and request or will we just get converted when they do my area. I'm at Blackburn & Travis if that makes any difference. Thanks alot for the input.
