Looks like the wait won't be much longer here in McKinney for VOD. My on demand button on the remote now takes me to channel 1 and it says on the screen "VOD is now here. To activate service press OK". But nothing happens when you hit OK.
Well it is most likely not there quite yet. Try calling the automated Number to send a HIT to your box see if that works.

It came on at 11:00 for me last night. I kind of thought it might since it showed 11:00 for the current program listing time no matter what time it was.

It's only working on my HD receiver though. Isn't it supposed to work on all digital boxes? I can get to the DVR menu on the other receivers and even see the programming, but all the programs show up in red and it gives some error when I try to watch the show.

It was up and running in Sachse this morning. $5.99 seems a little high for a movie purchse but that's another debate. Guess it's the price of convenience.

Very cool.

Volume lock

I want to program my standard issue Comcast remote(the one that came with the HD/DVR box to always adjust the volume on my A/V receiver, regardless of function it is on (e.g cable or TV). I think it is called locking your volume. Any idea how to do this or where to look? I didn’t understand the Hi-fi website instructions.

Re: [COMCAST] HDTV in Dallas MetroPlex

Okay, I just had an epiphany on the way to work this morning. Consider this: if VOD is now possible, why can't we go to ALL VOD? How about totally eliminating the digital side of the cable broadcast and let EVERYTHING go VOD. Comcast (or further upstream) could make every show available by VOD and when we sit down to view cable, we simply select the title we want and order VOD. Comcast could continue to send the regular analog, but VOD all digital broadcasting. That way we don't need TiVo, we don't need DVRs, no forgetting to set a recording, etc. The entire broadcast of 200 channels 24/7 for 3 weeks could be stored in less than 100 TB. That's a measly $50,000 in hard drive cost today. By eliminating the entire digital broadcast, bandwidth might be sufficient for this type of service.

What would you pay to be able to watch any program from the last 3 weeks (or more) at any time, simply by selecting it from your cable box guide listing?

Think about it - total paradigm shift!

I think you're thinking about something close to IP-based TV (IPTV). Microsoft and SBC signed an agreement a few weeks ago.

This sounds like for an HD movie, correct me if I am wrong. I have only seen regular VOD PPV and Dbl Features for 5.99, with Adult being 9.99, I think.

I found the answer on AVS and it worked for me:

If your remote is lock to your TV volume, and you want it to control your receiver volume, first unlock all volume controls by pressing the TV mode key and then the Setup key until the TV key blinks twice, release the Setup key and enter 9-9-3 and then press vol+ once. The mode key will blink four times confirming unlock. Then to lock the volume control to Aux, press Aux once, then press the Setup key until the Aux key blinks twice, then release the Setup key, enter 9-9-3 and then press Aux once. The Mode key will blink twice, confirming Aux volume global lock.

That is correct. It's 5.99 for HD movies and 3.99 for the SD titles. Not too bad. The IMAX content they have in HD should be free or at least cheaper than 5.99 IMHO.

Once again we have a repeat offender, LOL. The Dallas area is looking at or around December 16th for VOD and then I-Guide to be deployed very soon after that, possibly a couple days afterwards. Please read above folks.

Re: [COMCAST] HDTV in Dallas MetroPlex

Just called to set up Comcast to replace my Dish. Installation is Monday but they are OUT of 6412s. I will get 2 6208s until they get more 6412s in stock.

The really neat part about the beta test is the refund offer for all PPV shows! I could not believe it so I called in and the rep said it was true. Comcast will credit the PPV charges up until the end of the beta test on Dec 13, 2004.
How did you find out about this? Can anyone else confirm? Do you have to actually contact Comcast or do they credit you automatically?

The Beta information came by mail, and it stated the PPV charges would be credited to you account within 3 days! After reading the letter, I called the beta number on it to verify if it was true and was told by a rep it was true! To enjoy!!!

Just in case, I just went to comcast online and checked my bill... no PPV charges and we have been really hitting it!

Too bad it ends Dec 13!

Channel Lineup Change in Mail Today

WOOT looks like Plano and Richardson will be getting the channel lineup change on Dec 28th. I got a card in the mail explaining some of the changes.

The best part is that the card said that these channels are being deleted so VOD can be implemented!!

Laters,
Jeff
