bigdmaxxer,
you've experienced HDTV but you do have a few misconceptions about the whole thing. Let me try to sort this out for you.
1. check out »dhtg.napurano.com for dallas HD users.
2. show-HD doesn't broadcast everything in HD. yes it's a little confusing as to why they call themselves a HD channel, but if you go to www.sho.com, you can get the HD movies and programming schedule. all material that you see with black bars on the sides is upconverted from 480i -> 1080i. everything that is in true widescreen is true HDTV.
3. HBO doesn't broadcast everything in the theatrical aspect ratio but SHOWTIME does. They are zooming in on 2.35:1 material and making it fit the screen and this causes loss of information on the sides. All the 16:9 movies and shows on HBO are true HDTV. Shows like Inside the NFL which have the black bars on the sides(4:3 aspect ratio) is upconverted and not HD. zooming in on the 4:3 content causes the heads to be chopped off. It chops off top and bottom to create a widescreen picture.
4. Watch the Superbowl. You will likely see movie trailers in HD.
5. 2006 doesn't require everything to be in HDTV. It just has to be digital. Take a look at Fox who is not doing HDTV but is broadcasting a digital signal. Their blurry picture is technically acceptable so they're good to go. But one would think that there would be no draw to this kind of picture quality when HDTV is available. |

Everyone check your DCT's, we should be getting CBS 11 in HD very soon hopefully it'll be by tonight so we can watch the Football game in HD and 5.1 Audio. But check your boxes because mine says "One moment Please" on channel 654.

KCharg, if you're doing an install on Tuesday on on Blackburn St, THAT'S ME!!!! A few questions: It will be very tough for me to arrange to be there, will my wife be able to handle it if I leave her prepared?
What all should I have hooked up for the tech? Component already in the TV & S-Vid to my TiVo I guess, right?
Also, do I need the phone line to be working?
Thanks a ton for all of your input on this board, I know we all appreciate it. |

| All sounds good. No need for the phone line on the DCT5100 and all the DCT2000 Models because all of Dallas is now RF Return which of course means no more damn phone lines!!! I will probably not have your install because I mostly do HSI Service Calls but HDTV when they need me to.

Is there any place on the COMCAST site that mentions the timing of delivery of additional HD stations to be added in the 651-659 range?
Why has FOX chosen to upconvert their image from 480i to 1080i? The image is fuzzy and not up to par. Is this a local affiliate decision or a network decision?
I just got my cable installed on Saturday and it went fine and all channels came up.
Lastly - I have noticed now on two occasions that KXAS-Channel 5 on some broadcasts have the a/v synchonization problem - very noticable during Titanic on Sunday. Where does this problem lie? tks |

Fox isn't upconverting their signal from 480i; they broadcast in 480p on their digital side. The upconverting is happening in the box; if you want it to stop doing it, go to the box menu and override 480 upconversion - the best description of how to that can be found at »cjhengineering.com/5100faq.htm |

| Thanks stewlevine - the site link helped. Do you know of an easy way to make the change from upconverting to 1080i to 480p via the remote? - rather than having to power the box down and going into setup mode?? I watch a lot of FOX and it is frustrating to see an upconverted picture on that channel. What a disappointment. Any idea of when FOX will broadcast in true HD (720p or 1080i)? Also, I noticed that ABC broadcasts in 720p-the picture looks great though even if the box is downconverting from 1080i - I haven't gotten into the setup yet to see if I see the NATIVE option which would sure make things easier in automatically sending whatever signal is received (480i/p, 720p, or 1080i) and then letting the TV make the modification as needed. |

Unfortunately Not, but your friends on this website will keep you updated. Side note: Some "birdies" in the company are still saying that Discovery HD and InHD are next here in the Dallas Area.

AFAIK there isn't a way to do the change via the remote, perhaps someone has else has figured this out, and supposedly the NATIVE option has not yet been activated. There is a stupendously long thread about the 5100 and Comcast over on avsforum worth checking out at »www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthre···d=194404 |

| Nothing new on the Moto 6208, just the fact that approximately 15-20 Local employees are still beta testing this box. A couple of weeks ago they were targeting Late January to be a release time for the Moto 6208. I'll ask again tomorrow if I can get a hold of someone.

@comcast.net
| Picked up a DCT5100 yesterday and did a self-install here in East Plano. Looks great, however... The old box used the separate A/B cables, and the new box just has the one cable input. My understanding is that all the B-cable material is duplicated in digital on the A cable, and that the box sorts this out transparently, so that to the user, nothing has changed, channel number-wise.
Is this true?
What I'm seeing is that I can't get to any of the channels that used to be on the B cable, and that the channel mapping is wrong. It's like it's running in the A/B mode rather than looking for the digital versions of these channels.
Any advice? |

1 edit | You have received a Single Line only box which does not work where you are located. Here in the Dallas system we too have an A and B side. By no means is the A-side have the B-side in Digital, it just doesn't work like that. You need to go back to that office or schedule a service call because you have the wrong DCT.
Another thing is that the A-side cable does carry your HD channels or at least it does here in the Dallas System.
