said by lazybum1979 : How much does it run you to get a HD setup from the cable company? I can't seem to find that information anywhere in this post.
Here it is $5 a month for the box rental(no matter what channel package you have) and $30 install fee. |

| reply to kcharg i think some of the hd channels are on the "A" side already
i tried my mits integrated tuner and it picked up a bunch of channels but they were all scrambled
can you give us a date when the service could possibly be available? are they really going to make us wait till jan 1st or is there a chance of getting it earlier? |

Locally, after you consider that Showtime and HBO account for two of the planned four channels, that leaves two "basic" HD channels. That means no UPN HD (which is starting here next week with "Enterprise" and "Jake 2.0"), no WB HD, and probably no CBS HD.
I'd hardly call that "everything I need" -- maybe I could say "everything I need -- except the programming", since most of the HD that I watch (or will watch) regularly is on those three networks. |

| reply to kcharg yes please do update us when you get it installed
i thought you said that it would be happening sometime this week
main thing is what channels are they offering
i'm not too attracted anymore unless ESPN is going to be offered seeing as how they have a bunch of NBA games on their HD schedule |

| I apologize for not getting installed this past week. LOL. But the powers that be are the ones doing the scheduling around here. From what I am still hearing (And I am lacking alot of information from the company I work for) they are not going to offer ESPN HD right off the bat but soon after the Launch time, I am thinking within 3 months of launch time. But once again I am getting installed 10/24 from 8-11am and I will let everyone know how things go ASAP.

| Ok I have yet another update. I was asking one of our inside people today about our offerings on HD. Here in the Dallas Metroplex we will be offering for sure HBO HD, SHO HD, NBC 5 HD and FOX 4 SD (Not HD). If you all wanna see some proof just go to channels 650-655 I believe and you will see where they are slotted to be. Of course this is only going to apply to people who live in the Dallas Metroplex. So I only have 4 days and counting until I get installed!!!

| So far so good. I was just installed by an In-House Tech and alls good so far but for one minor thing. No Showtime HD or HBO HD until the 28th of the month. It seems like the whole Metroplex (Dallas) is going to be having a major software update on the 28th at Midnight that will change the way boxes and channels and PPV's are enabled. So with that being said they are gonna wait until that is done to activate the other HD channels. So unfortunately we are only receiving NBC in HD (When programs are avail. of course) and FOX which only airs in SD here so far. So by the time they release HD to customers everything should be worked out.

| Great to hear that things are still running to schedule, although it must suck to have the hdtv box but almost no content! I saw a message in the on-screen guide that there was going to be a network upgrade on the 28th, now I guess we know why.
Just a quick question - what is the model of hdtv box you were given, and what rear panel connections are provided?
Thanks for the update, I for one really appreciate it. |

| Be sure to let us know what happens Kcharg when the software update goes through. I just did my weekly call to Comcast to see when us customers could sign up for install, and the lady who answered said "sometime before the holidays, we hope," so has the November 1 date slipped? |

| Alright guys sorry about the delay I been on vacation for a little over a week and without an Internet Connection. Here's an update:
The conversion on the 28th is still causing some problems with all Digital Boxes and from what I hear they are still trying to work out some bugs in the system (I haven't been back to work since then). My HDTV box wasn't working when I got home from Vacation on Friday the 31st so I had to call up my dispacth and get them to HIT the box and everything came back up, but here's the funny thing: I now get Showtime and HBO in HD but nothing else. If you all remember I got NBC 5 in HD (When broadcast) and FOX 4 in SD but now I don't get those two. But another thing is that we now have channels allocated for ESPN HD which is channel 668 on your Digital Boxes so I am not 100% they have opened that channel or not? I will let you all know probably by Tuesday. So it has kinda been weird trying to figure out which channels I am now supposed to get and which they are still working on. I will let you all know as soon as I find out.

| Small Update:
I just called my Dispatch again to look at my HD Box and they found something wrong with the Account that was not allowing me to get my NBC 5 and FOX 4 in HD & SD. I am now receiving:
650 - SHO HD 651 - HBO HD 653 - NBC HD 655 - FOX SD 668 - ESPN HD (Saying Not Authorized)

| Thanks for the update Kcharg. Great to see we will, probably, be getting more than 4 channels. Hopefully more (abc, cbs, etc.) will make it along in the not too distant future too.
Any news on when the customer launch is likely? Obviously the Nov. 1 date has now come and gone, but hopefully we don't have too much longer to wait! |

| I spoke with a few CSRs last week (got new regular boxes, needed multiple attempts to hit them, etc...)
What I heard consistently was: - Launch target is mid-month, could be delayed further - Boxes unavailable until then - Self-install not an option
What I heard from sometimes, but not always: - HD would have an upcharge, this would be different than other Comcast markets, but may be just the typical box rental - PVR functionality (distinct from VoD) would be available in December; unclear whether the same box or a different box
Hey KCharg - a few questions Which box did they install? (Moto 5100, something else?) What ports are active in the back? (both optical and digital coax for sound? DVI? S-video?) [text was edited by author 2003-11-03 13:20:20] |

| They Installed the Motorola 5100, as far as the Ports are concerned I have been able to prove that the S-Video, RGB, Optical and Digi-Coax Ports are functional. I do not have a DVI input on my TV so I could not prove that one. But I will update you all on when my ESPN starts coming in.

| reply to kcharg Comcast is using Motorola DCT-5100 boxes for HD. They come standard with the outputs listed above. There are DVI boxes out there as well. The channels the will be in all markets soon, if not already, will be (HD) ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS (some markets), ESPN, HBO, SHO, PBS, INHD1, INHD2, and there are three more channels launching by the end of the year. |

| Doubtful that ABC and CBS will be available in Dallas in the near term since WFAA is owned by Belo and not by ABC and Comcast has not worked out a digital carriage agreement with Belo yet, and KTVT is a CBS O&O, and again Comcast and CBS have not yet come to an agreement. |
