On HP (and Compaq) computers, Backweb Lite is used as
part of the remote diagnostics suite of software that
comes pre-installed on these machines. On HP PCs, it is
called HP Center, and is also accessed by the Remote
Assistance item in HP Tools in the Start Menu. It is
really not needed except by absolute newbies, so those
registry keys should be safe to delete (I would still
have Spybot make a backup of them in case of any problems).
The reason why Spybot detects them is because Backweb
Lite in some cases is used to deliver popup ads to the
user's PC. Logitech's products will also install Backweb
Lite, so these may have come along with any of their
drivers you installed as unwanted foistware.

That's true...I have a Logitech keyboard and mouse and when I remove it via spybot or msconfig, I get an error at bootup.

You can rid most of BackWeb by simple not installing the Desktop Manager that comes with all Logitech products. This was my complaint a while back:

must've been a coincidence....

Could it be that you confused Backweb with the talk-back client? Pre-release (alphas, betas, rc's) Mozillas contain TalkBack, which automatically files bug reports for when Mozilla crashes.

DSmithlady you may want to run Regseeker: »www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm as well as Spybot, since BackWeb lite is fairly insidious. I have an HP pc and after removing BackWeb lite some time ago, I ran one of the initial versions of Spybot and was suprised to find quite a number of other entries for BackWeb lite which I then removed. On a whim, about a month ago I used the "find in registry" feature in Regseeker and it turned up a number of further entries for "BackWeb". I backed up the registry and removed them as well, and have suffered no ill effects. I assume they were leftovers from my initial two attempts at removal.

In my case, this is definitely a Logitech...HP issue...I'm glad to hear that you were able to remove them without crashing your computer.
