===========================================================

In order to consolidate the Questions, Threads, comments about the changes to the Powerlink service I am starting this thread at the request of Geekster. It will be made a sticky at the top of the Forum. I will ask Geekster to remove anything from this thread that is not either a question or an answer from Myself, Macleech, Heymole, swcox or Jacks Ghost. This will help correct information get out there.

Thank You.

Q. What is happening on the Adelphia Network this week?

A. Adelphia has changed every single DHCP server. DHCP is the process that issues IP's to your modems and your computer equipment. Without an IP you do not surf.

Q. Why are they doing this?

a. The new servers and the tools that are available to Adelphia Technicians should and will make the Network perform more effectively.

Q. What does the customer get out of this?

A. Adelphia sent an E Mail to all its subscribers and provided a press release stating that it intended to have two tiers of service. 3000/256 as the Powerlink service and a Premier Service of 4000/512

Q. When will this happen?

A. The Network Upgrades should be complete by 15 Oct 03. The speed changes will take place soon after that for current subscribers. Regions will swap over area by area and currently their is no known schedule (at least by me) Some areas are already seeing the new Tiers. Other Areas may have to wait a little longer.

Q. The migration is already done for my area and I went from 3000/128 to 2000/256, what happened?

A. The 2000/256 is only temporary. Everybody not purchasing the Premiere teir will be migrated to the standard Power Link 3000/256 tier after all the migrations are finished and the associated migration problems are fixed.

Q. Where can I find out more information about the Premiere tier?

A. Go to this webpage:

Q. The email I received about the upgrades stated I would get 3 megabytes per second download and 256 kilobytes per second upload speeds. Is this right?

A. No, the email was mistaken. The correct speeds are 3 megaBITS per second download and 256 kiloBITS per second upload speeds.

To see a corrected copy of the notice that was emailed, go to this page:

Q. I have been migrated, someone else in my Town says they are getting the new Tier, I am not, should I call and tell them.

A. It would be better not to at the present time. There is increased call volume and its possible that the person that answers may not be able to do it anyway. Best advice is to wait for the change to happen.

Q. How do I tell if my area has been migrated?

A. To know for sure you will have to do a domain name lookup on the IP address of your assigned DHCP server. If the name begins with ADC, then you have been migrated. If the name begins with CNR or HES, then you have not been migrated.

Q. How do I get the IP address of my assigned DHCP server?

A.
To determine your DHCP IP Address for Windows NT, 2000, and XP:
1. Select Run from the Start menu
2. Type: command
3. Click the OK button
4. At the prompt, type: ipconfig/all
5. Your network information will be displayed

To determine your DHCP IP Address for Windows 95, 98, and ME:
1. Select Run from the Start menu
2. Type: winipcfg
3. Click the OK button
4. Click the MORE INFO button
5. A window will display your DHCP server address

To determine your DHCP IP Address for Macintosh:
1. Select the Control Panel from the Apple Menu
2. Select TCP/IP Control Panel
3. The DHCP Server field will display your DHCP server IP

Q. How do I do a domain name lookup?

A. If you don't know then the easiest way is to use this link:

2. »supportsoft.com/news/pressroom/p···0916.asp
3. A third product is involved but no public press releases have been issued.

Q. When I do a nslookup for my IP address or DHCP server
I get: 67-22-x-x.stmnca.adelphia.net

I remember I used to get a "hes" domain"

Q. Which regions have been migrated at this point. (Sunday October 12 03)?

A. Nearly all regions have been migrated. The Central Region migrated Fri Night/Sat Morning. The only region left is the Western Region. This includes CO, WA, ID, and Northern CA. There are SOME areas of the central region, specifically towns in Kentucky, Ohio and West Virginia that will migrate with the western region. Thats as specific as I will get!

Q. What customers other than the western Regions have NOT been migrated?

A. Non Doccis areas (most use the Terayon Terapro), One way and three way customers (These use the telephone line for upstream) and some areas currently owned and operated by Telemedia.

Q. Has the migration been done in my area?

A. Yes, the server migration is done for all areas
(Exception: very limited areas using non-DOCSIS or 1-way/3-way modems)

Q. The migrations are done but my speed is now (insert weird numbers here: 2000/256, 3000/128, etc.) not the standard Power Link 3000/256 or Premiere 4000/512 Adelphia said they would upgrade to, what happened?

A. The migration that was just finished for Adelphia's cable modem customers was a change in the Adelphia DHCP, TFTP, and DOCSIS modem provisioning servers.

These server changes caused some modems to download different configuration files, which is why some modem's speed caps changed. Not all the new configuration files were the correct ones, but many have been fixed to return modems to the speed caps they had before the server migration.

This migration specifically dealt with the server changes not the speed cap changes.

Most customers speeds are not the final 3000/256 or 4000/512 speed tiers listed by Adelphia. Those new speed caps will be rolled out before the end of the year, most likely sooner, but first all the issues caused by the server migrations must be corrected first.

Re: Network Changes and Speed Questions

Q. Have speed caps in some areas been raised to the 3000/256 (Standard) and 4000/512 (Premiere) levels yet?

A. Mass speed cap migrations started earlier this week (11/17/03). You may have to power cycle your modem to see the new speeds.
