Re: Is this motherboard phoning home ??

wheelert, I think I'm on the Outer Limits. They control the horizontal, they control the vertical. WTF we try to stop it from everyplace else, they start putting it on our system at the lowest level.

This kind of reminds me of the big stink raised over Intel's Pentium III fiasco when it allowed the serial number of your processor to broadcast itself all over the place. They quickly gave us a little program to turn the little bugger off.

I'd send a quick email to the company and see what they say. I'd be willing to bet if more folks get wind of this, they'll quickly give you an option of turning it off.

I just did some digging around and found this on their website. »www.phoenix.com/PlatSS/pcplatfor···ures.pdf

Is anyone else reading into this what I am? If so, this is not a good thing!

B. BIOS Security Services
Because external clients must access security information or functionality only the BIOS can provide,
PhoenixBIOS provides BIOS Security Services for both internal clients (such as Setup nodes) and external
clients not linked with the BIOS.
This new technology uses two tables, one that defines security states and the other that defines the
permissions under which access to a device is allowed. It is also possible to govern individual Setup items
with separate security provisions.
The BIOS Security Services provide a mechanism for external clients to extract information from the BIOS
or instruct the BIOS to perform a specific function.
