 Nextel - check your bills!!!

what a ripoff..

i got my bill and noticed that nextel charged me .15 cents for the spam text message i got for this month.. not to mention last months bill.

I called to get it credited, and they denied me. The lady (melony) said that they did issue credits, but are not anymore. They're "working to get it resolved".

Everyone, check your bill.. 15 cents from everyone adds up!

A crock if you ask me.. I know about their damn service and its not fair that they do this. Im going to look for a law against this spam and im going to write to them.

If anyone else has a problem, their address is:

i called and didnt know that i was "opted in" for marketing from nextel, but they still refuse to credit me for any message i receive, claiming i "opened them" They have no proof of the message, but claim they have record of me opening one message. Im unsure if that message was from nextel, or if it was one i deleted.. I do remember opening one message from nextel (unsure when..) but apparantly i get charged for that?!? NOT FAIR!!!!

I put a call into my state attorney general reguarding this. Its not fair that as a customer i have no rights reguarding unsolicited messages that i cannot prevent, without paying MORE money for... i get a run around with the damn CS people, so maybe the Asst. St. Attorney General may return my call tomorrow!

Call your public service commission too. They handle telecom matters like this, infact if you call nextel and get a supervisor and threaten PSC complaints you just might get the credit.

normal customer care.. i called 3 times cuz i just didnt get anything they each told me.. one gave me a schpeel about how to delete messages, but it required me to have the internet part for like 10 bucks more.. she claimed i could do it, but i told her i didnt have it, so i called again.

the lady after that apologized for her and said i had to "save" the new SMS message, then delete it.. but that makes NO sense to me.. I dont want to have to worry about getting these unwanted charges from now on.. i guess i have to document everything and what i did when i receieved them.

Im pissed that they dont know jack about what messages come through or WHEN!!!

they claim since i read them, i get charged, end of story.. i said I know i deleted one, and the one i got today i read because i dont know wtf it is. Sure enough.. SPAM!

they say i read everything but i think they charge me no matter what.

I know i read an SMS from nextel advertising their new DC service nationwide, but it said it was free.

Im going to document everything from now on.. this is rediculous that i have to resort to this..

That could be a nice income gainer for them.. spam each customer and then charge them for it, hope that most people won't check the bill or bother to complain.

This has happened to me before. A quick call to Customer Service should clear up this problem. However, it does irritate me. They spam everyone with a message and charge everyone .15 cents. That is a huge money maker for them.

Well the thing that pisses me off about Nextel and may make me leave after almost 4 years with them. Is the took away the free 300 text messages you get with NOL and NOL Plus!!

Call back up and hit the option for the wireless dept. because they can credit you back. The CS reps are totally BS'ing you. The wireless dept. is in charge of setting up text messaging, wireless web, two way messaging etc.

a quick call led to 3 quick calls.. i stupidly never persued it, so i called back and still got a runaround..

where they basically told me to kiss off because i wasnt going to get any refund..

they issued me a refund once or twice before when i got this garbage. I got these messages out of nowhere, which leads me to belive its important. I fall for it, open it and am told because i read the message, im charged, end of story.

I complained, and they told me again, politely to kiss off because i wasnt going to receive any credit.

One person told me how to delete them, but it required i had the net part ($5 a month extra) and i told her. She was arrogant about it because i had a P/O'ed tone.. I called back to let them know that they were wrong and i was right, and i was told "i apologise for whatever the other person told you, but this is how you do it......" which i was told to "save" the new SMS, then delete it, NOT to select the "read" option... but that sounds like i have to download it, get charged no matter what, then delete it.

All in all it sounds like a scam from nextel that no matter what, i will automatically be charged for any unsolicited SMS message whether i want it or not, they'll take my money.

Nice try.. Im gonna find a way to fight this crap!

thanks GDM, i think i will.

i even asked why i cant receive any detailed list of all SMS messages i read or received.. They said i couldnt. That they only know when i accept a message, but they do not keep any records of anything that passes through.

Sounds like BS to me..

I have never been able to see detailed on SMS either but I am sure there is some type that exists with more details then just "oh you accepted it".

Nevermind, just got my first SPAM text message. There is apparently no way to delete it without reading it. I will be taking this up with NEXTEL is they try to charge me.

Ok, I just checked my bill and lo-and-behold, I had 1 charge per phone of .15 cents for a spam message that each of my phones had. I called nextel and explained the situation. I even saved the test message on my phone and read it to them. Nextel claimed that all messages sent via their system we shouldn't be charged for. However, we were. They gave us the .30 cent credit, but man that is a huge money maker Nextel has. Lets say Nextel sends it out to all 12 million of their customers and only 35% catch it. That means Nextel will make 1.14 million dollars. WOW!

Anyway, I called and was on the phone for less than a couple minutes and had my refund.

I believe that you can avoid all these SMS charges if you just call them up and tell them to disable text messaging on your account.

lawrence171: NOT a good idea. Text messaging works hand in hand with Voice Mail notification. If you disable SMS, then you won't get any notice that you have new voice mail. Very dumb in my opinion, but I verified this.
