| I'm going to Ultra for 2 months..
Received an advisory offering Basic customers a chance to upgrade to Ultra 3Mb for 44.98/month for 2months, 69.99 thereafter. I'm thinking since my 3 month promotional period is over, I'll give Ultra a try and see at no extra cost to me. I said at the onset that I would change providers, but the grim prospect of dealing with the modem return gives me nightmares at night. Offer stands til Dec. 31st 2003 so if anyone wants in on a good deal, this is it.
For those who have upgraded before, can you confirm whether or not the transition is transparent or will there be downtime?

Orleans, ON | No downtime, they only need to change your profile through software, which takes your modem offline for about 15 seconds. |

I just got that same deal today as well because my 3 month deal they had me on has ended. The lady I spoke to said that I can choose to return to my regular high speed package after the two months and i'd still recieve the increase in speeds because to the modem. By any chance does anyone know if this is true. |

Orleans, ON | If you're currently using a Nortel modem, and go for the two month trial of Ultra, and go back to regular HSE after the trial is over, you will keep the new modem. They won't put you back on a Nortel modem again. |

Yeah i'm on the Nortel modem. I figured they wouldn't ask you to return the newer modem but my question is would you still see the increase in speed which you did going from reguler HSE to Ultra HSE? |

| The Nortel modem is only capable of 1.0 megabit speeds, whereas the new modems are capable of much more. Since HSE has been upgraded to 1.5 megabit speeds, once the Ultra trial is over, you'll drop down to 1.5 which is faster than the 1.0 you've got now with the Nortel. |

Orleans, ON | That's because the sync rate is 3488/800, the actual download speeds are 3000/640, so your speed tests are pretty much perfect. |

Ah I see, they take the overhead of the PPPoE into consideration when they set the sync rate. Makes sense. |
