How about this.....
Municipal broadband is an opportunity to provide another level of service to its citizenry, just as they do with water, sewer, streets, and in some cases, electric, gas & trash collection.
If the entire community benefits, either directly (via services provided) or indirectly (increased economic opportunities for the city to attract businesses or provide advanced emergency services, etc..), how is this a problem?
This is not some government handout, but instead, a local government taking a proactive stance to securing their own destiny. The people I've elected are looking out for my needs (whether or not you think they are essential). They are doing the job I've asked them to do....to represent me.
