| Considering moving from Vonage to VoicePulse
Hi all,
I'm currently a Vonage customer, going on about a year, maybe a year and a half. It mostly works, and I find the basic voice quality to be excellent. I am finding that more and more toll free numbers and numbers on alternate carriers are failing to go through, which means I have to grab the landline...
My main motivation for moving though is that I am looking at putting an Asterisk box in my home office, as it lets me be in control of the voicemail and faxing, and some other nifty stuff (routing based on caller ID, playing disconnect tones to telemarketers, lets me use single line phones, route all outgoing to the cheapest carrier, use FWD and other VoIP providers). The list is long, and I am looking at adding Asterisk PBXs to the list of things I sell, so it would also be a learning experience.
Back to the subject at hand. VoicePulse looks good, and they allow you to "get at" your config info so you can use whatever phone/pbx you want (at a small extra monthly charge).
So given the above, here's my questions:
-Is VoicePulse a good company? What types of problems do people have? I really only need the basics; an incoming number and the ability to call out. The fancy stuff I'll do myself.
-Is there anything I can use my ATA for post-vonage? I understand they are locked, and that no one is really having luck unlocking them.
-Is there any possibility of porting my Vonage number to VP? I know that it's technically feasible, but practical?
-Any other providers I should look at?
-Anyone else using Asterisk here? What provider, and how is it working out?
Thanks! -- just a minute |

That isn't the only thing it's good for! I trashed the ATA (broken anyway from my wife plugging the wrong power adaptor into it... it didn't like 12Vdc...), but their 5V power supply is good stuff. Lots of my lil hobby projects require a good regulated 5Vdc and it's great for it. |
