T1 is defined by a speed of 1.544 Mbps.
HSE promise a speed of 1.5 Mbps.
So is that considered to be T1 speed? |

Symmetric DSL (SDSL) like T1 does not allow you to talk on the phone and surf on the same line at the same time. -- Mark Walton |

| reply to Gundam_MX RADSL will be much closer to a T1. You can talk will surfing and and go at +-1 Mbps (i Think it's 1.088) up and down can go up to 7 Mbps.
Their is a new type of ReachDSL where it's possible to offer 2 Mbps up/down and still let people talk will surfing... and reach distance of 11 Km from the CO if I remember corectly... |

| reply to Gundam_MX Not to complicate, but a T1 is a symetrical service. ADSL by its very nature is asymetrical. Small difference really as ADSL speeds are beginning to rise above T1 speeds. Where the difference really happens is in the SLA (Service Level Agreement). That T1 is going to cost a lot (check out the monthly cost of just a 128k link if you want a shock) beucase it does come with some guarantees of service, and time to repair when something does go south. Something that you don't always find when you call 310-SURF. WHen one of my 128k + links drop across the country, and someone telephones Bell/Telus/whomever, a clock starts to bring back the circuit before financial penalties begin to be incurred. Again, something that does not happen with your ADSL service (unless you want AT&T's Allstream service which is has an SLA, but one that you pay for) |

| adding to the post above, if you would like to read about T1 SLAs, you can find an intresting one at speakeasy.net. they offer T1 services. It actually sounds quite impressive. they even let you out of their binding 1+ year contracts if you have severe connectivity issues.
we have 1.544mb at work. it went down once for 24 hours in the year+ i've been working there. they never figured out why it happened but i'm sure that the company had an extra grand that month. |
