Here's an informative source for anyone considering relocating...Their cost of living and salary calculator is excellent as well in comparing the advantages/disadvantages of relocating from one place to another..

| reply to Fobulous The only way I would move out of Texas is if either: A: My wife got an offer for a 100k+ year job or B: I got an offer for a 100K+ year job
Theres no way I'm ever moving out of Texas, I love it here to much. I can deal with the summers.

| reply to Fobulous jigstx yes Texas is a good place to be especially in the DFW area..not too crazy about South Texas or the Gulf Coast areas.
also, dont' they have to cough up State Income tax in Baltimore/DC area?? my friend kept saying that they have only 1% property tax and sales tax is only 5%. but i think they'll make up the rest by State Income Tax. -- Posts: 6354 MYIE2

yes, there is state income tax in VA, MD & DC. you pay based upon your residence, not where you work. so if you live in VA but work in DC, you still pay VA state income taxes. DC is incidentally the highest.
that personal property tax is assessd every year. so if you own a car, you pay taxes on that *every* year...of course each year is less due to depreciation. so if you have a car, house and boat, you will be paying property taxes EVERY year on all 3. i remember straight out of college, i had a 93 camry. it was worth about $7000 according to virginia. i paid roughly $270 that year for my county tax sticker (extra sticker we don't have here in texas). and if you don't pay your taxes...well, you get no county sticker which means you get pulled over every other second...because cops look for that *all* the time... |

Damn, $270 for your tax sticker? Yeah, that certainly is more than the $52 I pay every year for my car registration...please. You could use that extra money to pay for your insurance. And yes, the rates out there would probably be equal or greater than they are here. -- 1. Peace through superior firepower 2. There is a huge 3-D world out there that doesn't give a crap about secret club houses and perverted picture posting. |
