I noticed that the Linksys Router / Modem gives out 1 hour leases to my desktop...
Strange...my previous router would give out 3 day leases.
I've heard that the Motorola surfboard is one of the popular cable modem equipment (eg. SB4200, SB5100) that comcast uses. For homenetworking, do they also use the SBG1000 »broadband.motorola.com/consumers···sbg1000/ as an alternative to the linksys router combo? |

| At this current time Comcast only provides the Linksys kit. They have a boot file only for the Linksys kit. More that likely Comcast is not going to use one of the mainstream combos because then they can not control it as much as the Linksys can be controlled from their end. Linksys made this kit specifically for Comcast, to the specs and to their likings with all of their own backdoor options. |

Thanks. That makes sense. That's why the NAT'd IP address is fixed to 5, as I read in this forum too. |

Same, the fact you have to use their hardware is a big turn-off. |

I played that game today!
2003-11-19 11:35:07 EST: 4033 / 371 Your download speed : 4033050 bps, or 4033 kbps. A 492.3 KB/sec transfer rate. Your upload speed : 371057 bps, or 371 kbps. Seems like broadband .. above the 1mbit barrier |

1 edit | reply to JeepMatt I jumped in and an VERY happy with the download speeds (getting 4mbps+), but the upload speeds have a lot to be desired...
the docsis info says the upload cap is 384kbps, but I'm only able to get around 270kbps max - it's at least above the previous 256kbps cap, so I have to assume its working...
any ideas (other than overhead on the test server, which may be the cause - although download is looking great...) as to why upload would not be at full capability? I tested with only 1 PC directly connected to the gateway to isolate, but otherwise have no clue. |

The g spec calls for backwards compatiablility, but there are NICs out there that only work on a+g routers, but 99% of the are b+g. |

| reply to drake it is all about controlling the quality of our experience as it was put to me yesterday and also eliminating the hassle of having to train their techs on every brand of router modem combo's out there, whihc would cost comcast lot's of dough, which in turn will make them raise rates before i for one and ready to pay an increase. i for one see no problem with the linksys combo that was installed, actually like having everything in one. less points of contact and hops for your signal to travel through. i have actually seen better throughput on this combo rather from my pro account, my pro account was running the 4300/384 config file. which just so happens to be the same as my HN. just my $.02 |

join:2002-07-16 Minneapolis, MN | reply to JeepMatt I just got the hn and the only qualm i have is you cannot change the lan ip's to be different. you're stuck with 192.168.0.x. this creates a conflict if you're dialing in to a network with the same ip. the speeds have been good and is well worth it. |

| reply to JeepMatt I just got the HN package installed and the modem/router I received was a Linksys/Comcast Wireless-G Cable Gateway WCG200-CC. Does this mean its 802.11G? I don't have a camera to take a pic but the unit is all black. All the setup screens that JeepMatt posted are the same and it has 1 usb/4 wired ports in the back. |
