| Where are you pinging too? If you are pinging to New York or San Francsico from Houston, 80ms is pretty much what you can expect of course because of phyiscal cable distance and such.
Post a ping result, and a traceroute maybe? -- »www.deanforamerica.com - You have the power to make a change! Support Howard Dean 2004 |

| reply to papillon Hi I live in houstonand have recentely run in to this problem also. I rent a gaming server in NYC and always pinged no more than 60 and now my ping is over 100. And I even tried pinging my server providers house which is in Albany, NY 150mi north of my servers location and pinged my normal 60 but to the gaming server my tracert says i'm being routed to PHO and LA and I end up with the 100 to 120 ping which I cant play with since the other people in my gaming community get between 20 and 60 pings! This started 3 days ago and I wondering what changed? Please help |

| Ran into this problem on the east coast last year....routed from NY to LA, back to NY again.
Roadrunner runs over the AOL Data Transit Network, and we were all seeing 100ms pings for about four months. I think in the end it was a borked router.....
It happened again later but ended in about a week. This might pass on its own if they've just got some network hardware issues.
Best you can do is call to report it. Roadrunner says they have no control over ADTN, and ADTN as an organization is about as consumer accessible as the President....
If it's all of Houston, best you can do is complain en masse. |

| reply to papillon I am having the same problem in The Woodlands. My team's Spearhead server is in Dallas, and my pings are now 95-150 vs. 30-50.
A guy on our team in Austin is having the problem with RR |

| reply to papillon Perhaps you can do a traceroute and see how your data is routed. If a gaming server is in NYC, and you are in Houston, and your route is routed through Los Angeles, yeah, you are going to have a ping of 120ms or more.
Roadrunner needs to fix them routers then Perhaps you could post a traceroute so we can analyze a bit..... -- »www.deanforamerica.com - You have the power to make a change! Support Howard Dean 2004 |

Below is the tracert to gaming server ip that is being routed wrong. And causing me an extra 50 ms delay in ping time making it virtually impossible to play on the gaming server I rent. Please help. The extra ping time just started 3 days ago. So something has changed! Moderator removed phone # and e-mail address. Thank You For your prompt attention.

| reply to centaur242 Like I said above, if it's ATDN there isn't much you can do other than call Roadrunner to complain and hope they inform ATDN that they've got a hosed router, which they're already probably aware of....
These problems usually resolve themselves over time after time.
Sorry. It pissed me off too when I went through it. I tried like a mad fool to find some kind of way to get answers from ATDN, and would have had an easier time bringing Princess Diana back to life with a spoon and some tin foil. |

COPYIED EMAIL: In a message dated 11/14/2003 4:47:42 PM Eastern Standard Time, centaur242@houston.rr.com writes: Dear Joe, This is what is bothering me it seems fine from rr to atdn and once in atdn I am bounced all the way from texas to PHO then LA to get to NYC where my server is running from. Can you tell me why I do not have the normal route up the east coast like I do with every other ip in NY. It is only this one ip that I'm being routed to pho. and LA. first causing 50more ms?? PLEASE HELP OR TELL ME WHO CAN?
Because Global Crossing announces that route to us. Our closest peering to Global Crossing is in LA.
