| reply to papillon papillon the 2 techs that came checked all that. But how does the time affect the setup inside the house? I never have problems in the morning or the afternoon. At 8PM, it seems like the network goes down almost everyday because my modem will start blinking, and windows will say "Network Cable Unplugged" Ill see if this repeats tonight... |

1 edit | Hi,
I've experienced the identical issue. As I understand it (cisco dudes, speak up and correct) an upstream router will behave normally if loads are within set parameters. If loads increase beyond these settings, (i.e. evening traffic when everyone is online) the router, like a pc could be at 100% utilization, and although it would work, it would be at a much diminshed capacity. Anyone downstream that has packets traversing this router during high utilization periods would experience what I have seen on your graphs.
So if your inside cabling is ok, then the RR team needs to monitor your path to locate the defective router...if that in fact is the problem. One more thing: if RR's network checks out, then someone (RR maybe) has to look into an issue on the ATDN network. And solving the problem here is even a bigger challenge. |

I stopped following this thread sometime ago so I don't know what all you've tried... If Windows tells you that, try replacing your network cable (between PC and cable modem). If that doesn't help, have your cable modem replaced. Regardless of what's going on on the WAN (RR's) side, Windows shouldn't think your cable is unplugged. As long as the modem is plugged into your wall outlet and turned on, there should always be a "link" (and no complaints about the cable). |

Kip patterson Premium join:2000-10-23 Columbus, OH | reply to TFTPlayer Yes - you have problems on the first hop - lost packets. You'll need RR to fix that unless it is something stupid in your setup like a loose or bad ethernet cable, which is unlikely. |

Yes, you're right... Question is, why does the modem reboot (on it's own) ?? Does it reset itself if signal levels get too low or are lost too often ?? I know TW can force a reboot from their end, but every day at the same time ??
Now I go back to my other suggestion: Replace the modem. I had NO problems swapping mine out a couple weeks ago. They even gave me the model I requested. |

| In the modem there are several timers that cause the modem to communicate with the headend periodically. If they time out without a response, the modem is programmed to reboot. This can be caused by many things, all external to the modem, such as bad signals, etc.
Two possibilites that are fairly unlikely are a bad modem or power problems.
You can look at the modem's log and see why it is rebooting. If there is no error message preceding the reboot it was probably caused by the user or a power outage.
I just got a new SB5100, and while it works well, I do not like the error log. It has very little of the information that was there in the SB4100. |

ok i didnt mean exactly at the same time but everyday like at 8pm was when it was worse, but the problem used to start like at 6 PM Like at 7 i wouldnt be able to play any online games and webpaged wouldnt load or would load really slow. Anyways i dont care anymore i cancelled the service, got tired of them and got rid of it. Of course it wasnt something stupid, im not a newbie at computers and networks. And since it was only at night, it is more likely to be related to the signal. And the modem blinks because the connections starts geting slow, and gradually slower until the conection practically pauses.
Now, yes everytime a modem resets or you turn it off, or it loses connection for a significant period of time (about 3 seconds) Windows XP will say "a network cable is unplugged", however id say that most of the time I was geting disconnected for shorter periods (about 1 second or less) and thats what they call intermitent connection.
Also, there is no excuse for them it didnt work with my other PC nor with my XBOX Live without geting disconnected and xbox setup is really easy there is no chance of erroneous configurations.. ah and my xbox alwyas work good with my dsl...
Finally i just have to say that rouad runner from time warner cable DONT CARE ABOUT YOU , and their rules are more important than the client. They could have sent someone to come over at night 7-8 and check the problem i was experiencing, and fix it, but they are not available at that time; They always came during the day when the lag wouldnt show up. If they just made an exception with me to fix it I would have been more than pleased to keep their service. Ironically they admitted that something was wrong after runing some test from their offices and told me to tell the last technician guy they were goin to send not to leave before he identify and fix the problem, and i dont think that guy really changed something, and if he did, that did not fix my intermitent connection at night.
sorry for the big post.. lol |
