Hey Quib,
Good to see you post on the issue. I know you have got some 'pull' at the RR tier 3 office. I provided all types of data indicating the problem was upstream on a RR/ATDN network, but no one acted on the information. If management had acted on data provided they may have averted last nights outage, avoided costly overtime, and possibly, refunds to customers. |

Sorry I have not looked into this for everyone. Really haven't been using the internet much at home. I'll look more into this and will start putting the fire under a few Roadrunner contacts.
The pings and packet loss were pretty terrible yesterday. They seemed to start around hop 4 for me. Last time this was due to a router issue and only took 2 months to resolve (gasp)
It is possible roadrunner is over subscribed again and the router at hop 4 is running over 100%. There is only so much processing power a router can handle. I'm sure the engineers have been pointing out the problem to their supervisors, but due to the end of the quarter, the supervisors do not want to spend the money to fix it (You know, they want their CEO bonus check).
If this continues, I'll help out.
Oh, Papillon, I enjoy our bandwidth race (faster download/upload). You and I should bring our spouses and meet at the Italian restaurant some evening |

Well, the tech was just here. He said signal is too high and he's called HQ for a lineman to come out and check out what he believes is a malfunctioning amp. He didn't know what Ping Plotter was when I showed him, but he was confident he knew what he was talking about when it came to signal. This problem appears to be quite localized so it's unlikely it's gonna help you over in Sugar Land, sorry to say. |

kstark,
The guys that come out really know nothing about the network. They are like the guys at your office that stuff envelopes.
Signal too high? I've seen when the signal was poor, that connectivity was an issue. If the voltage is too high, that's an issue, but never heard of the signal being too high. That should be a good thing.
Roadrunner, please get your act together!
and please stop telling customers to clear their cache because it's affecting their signal! |

Well, it appears that tech was blowing smoke, since packet loss is still occurring. What action to I take now? Start registering complaints with BBB? Call in again? That seems pointless since they have no training. How in the hell did they build the network if no one there has any idea how it works? Another thing, how can they be completely oblivious to network problems? I'll bet if I figured out how to get 10mbs up and down, not that it's possible, they'd damn sure know about that. These questions are mostly rhetorical. I felt the need to bitch. But if anyone has any ideas on what my next action should be, I'm open to suggestions. |

| reply to papillon I'm working up the chain of command to help get this resolved. When I called support today they stated "We have no known issue of problems in the evening". CRAP!!!! CRAP I SAY!!!
I will continue to call till I reach Cleon Smith or higher till this is resolved. The same problem happend around this time last year.
I'm sick of the tech's saying "Lets do a signal test". THIS IS NOT A SIGNAL PROBLEM, ITS A ROUTING ISSUE OR POSSIBLY OVER SUBSCRIBED NETWORK. IT'S NOT POSSIBLE THAT EVERY USER IN SUGARLAND ARE HAVING BAD SIGNALS!
It seems to start around 8:00pm each evening and continues until around 11:30pm.
Hang in there everyone. I'm going to raise so much stink Time Warners Arses will hurt! I'm sick of having to go through all this trouble for Time Warner to admit their problem. If this continues, I will start back up the class action law suit I started last year. Keep up the documentation.
If your interested in joining up in the class action law suit, contact me at: rrcomplaints@yahoo.com |

| Looking through the Houston.rr network status page, it appears the greater Houston area was in some type of outage or at a minimum, limited use condition, for all of 12/16/03... C'mon guys! Kick it up a notch! You will never be able to run VoIP over a network in this condition! |

quibbly Premium join:2003-02-07 Sugar Land, TX | reply to papillon Well, have a little good news. The problem isn't due to over subscription in the Sugarland area. It has to do with hop 4 NOC (like we didn't already know via tracerts). The problem is being addressed!
I'll keep everyone informed! |

You need to start charging RR for management and adminstrative fees.
Way to go!! I hope this effort works!
