| Nusiance applet keeps appearing.
I live in bramton ontario & use sympatico but for the last few weeks this applet keeps popping up on the screen two or three times a night.Password entry dialog. The mail server responded:Mail storage services unavaibable, wait a few minutes & try again. It asks for your password but no matter what you put in there it will not take it & everything freezes so I have to restart .Thanks in advance for your help |

@sympatico.ca | reply to andy7 Try typing your password (numbers on the numerical keypad) and press , not clicking on OK. It is a problem at the mail server, not your PC. Also, disable automatic checking of email during this time. |

Well, it is a client side problem, because whatever program he's using for mail keeps giving him this message. It's not Sympatico's servers that are sending him that message, it's his mail program. -- Mindless Self Indulgence |

@sympatico.ca | I don't necessarily agree with you, but following my first and last sentences will eliminate his need to restart his PC. |

Yes, and this solution is on the client's side, thus proving it's not a Sympatico problem. -- Mindless Self Indulgence |

@sympatico.ca | reply to EveryName Just because a work-around can be used at the client end, doesn't necessarily prove that that is where the problem originated. What kind of logic is that? |

Because if he can check his email, it's not a Sympatico problem. I'm not going to argue with you any further on this. Lets just leave it at this. -- Mindless Self Indulgence |

| reply to andy7 Boys this is definitely a problem with the smtp servers. This is a symptom we have been seeing since the worms started flooding the servers in August. The server times puts out this message because it is dealing with so many messages at once...definitely a Sympatico problem. Sorry I have to contradict everyone but this is happening around the dinner hour to me each and every night now. It is the ID/password box that pops up....like it is trying to authenticate and can't. |

| reply to andy7 Rajin: It's not an SMTP issue. Here's why: The SMTP servers don't require authentication by username and password, they authenticate by IP address. Therefore the pop up he's getting to re-enter his username and pass is for the POP server.
Get your facts straight. And I hope you don't tell customers that ALL their mail issues are worm/virus related. Especially since those issues have been resolved for almost 2 weeks now.
andy7: From what you have given us for information, I'd have to guess you leave your mail program open almost all the time, and it's set to check your email probably every few minutes.
If that the case, you'll have to set the send/receive time a little higher then one it is now. I've seen this problem when someone set's the mail program to check mail every 5 minutes or less.
The mail server can't handle the traffic at times, which is why it doesn't pop up with that message often. Evenings are busier for the POP server. I've gotten that message from time to time also.

| reply to Deadpool Just wanted to let you know there is no separation between servers yet at Sympatico/Nexxia so they are doing double duty from what I had explained to me. Soon users will be required to authenticate to the SMTP servers as most other ISP's require. Changes are on their way and big bucks are being spent to resolve issues due to email flooding as I for one have witnessed...if you need more details send me a private message. Rajin made a simple mistake as he probably knows by now. |
