| [DW6000] upgrade now available Hello. I just got off the phone with tech support (877-253-2391) and they informed me that the upgrade to the DW 6000 for current 4000 users just became available about 4 hours ago. The costs are as follows:
if you don't renew your contract, the equipment is 424.00.
If you renew your contract for 15 months, the cost is 224.00.
If you want the number let me know. But you can also call the above number and they can transfer you.
I'm ordering mine today!
Have a good weekend.

| "if you don't renew your contract, the equipment is 424.00"
This is incorrect. According to the CSR I talked to, you MUST agree to a new 15 month service contract starting NOW. Not only that but he said there is NO 30 day trial period.
This smells - would they not give you a trial period if the 6000 works OK ?
When I got the 4000 installed, I had no leverage because the incompetent installer brought the wrong power supply which I had to get replaced myself (took two months with HNS) and they wouldn't give me an extension on the 30 day trial period !
My service has been on and off since then but I was willing to try a 6000 to see if it fixed my problems.
Someone please tell me why I should now give them the benefit of the doubt ?

That should be clarified for others who are VARs customers seeking this type of info...

| Well, curiosity got the best of me so I called that number posted by tbonecopper.
Spoke with "Roy". Got more detailed info ...
- Upgrade info available as of Friday (11/14). - Price of upgrade is $399.99 plus $25 S&H. - Agree to 15-month service committment and get $100 off. - Return DW4000 (TX & RX modems) in good working order and get another $100 off.
He then transferred me to "Sales" They said availability to order is immediate. Delivery in 7-10 days. | Hummmm, let's see. It's not tweakable(?)So you are stuck with whatever speed you get? Biggest advantage is the RJ-45 connectivity? Just wondering, what is the real advantage? Someone at Skycasters told me that the DW6000 will never have a commercial version (maybe he just wants to get rid of his old 4020s). | BigCreek God Is Good. Premium join:2002-06-25 Heber Springs, AR | Re: [DW6000] upgrade now available The main advantage is you get rid of that horrid bloated unreliable Hughes software off your PC. I consider the fact that the DW4000 is tweakable to be a very dubious advantage.

Wonder if you have to send them your old modems before they'll send the upgrade modems? If that is the case then you're without service for however long it takes to get the new modem.. -- Direcway SRS; ver. 4.0.3.9 Patch A,B,& C, registry tweak & Dr. TCP; G4R 1350 WinXP; P-4, 512 mgs ram

| I didn't have a lot of choice as aol plus was dropping me in Dec after two years. If you think direcway in the last two years has been challenging, then you should have been on aol plus. Just being able to get rid of the aol plus software and getting a computer back was worth it.
I've had hardly any problems since the 6000 install. The first was this morning when the system went down for 6000's. Something called the TCP acceleration status was down. Its back up and running now, the system blue light is on and everything is operational.
My speed tests are much better than aol plus, but dl slower than my 4000. The uploads are more consistant with the 6000 than the 4000. I have a 4000 at work. Download speeds are just a little over 1 meg. You don't see the large bursts that you see in the 4000. I think that is a product of the 6000 and some kind of a cap that they have set at the noc.
I like it, especially for browsing. And I'm not getting any stats on the 6000 over at direcway either. Maybe they don't have it setup on the 6000 yet.
If your running a bunch of computers under ics or several different operating systems the 6000 is the way to go.

All the other information is correct. 15 month gives $100 off. Final cost is $224 total.

| I wouldn't sign up for another 15 months of dway, if they promised T-3 performance with no FAP, DSL is right down the road, and cable is over the hill, and I will wait until it is available if I have to use dialup.
the last year has been tech-non-support hell, and performance that equals dialup a good portion of the time.
