Re: [DW6000] upgrade now available

My question is?
Where is the 4.2 software for the DW4000? If and when they do release it, is it better than old software everyone is using now?
Does the DW6000 use the 4.2 or 4.0.3.9?

I am beginning to wonder if Hughes is not releasing new software to push the DW6000.

Hi All,

My perspective on a few questions/comments in the thread. I want the 6000 because my laptop is the host for the DW software. I want to be able to take it with me or turn it off without the rest of the network losing the connection. Also, when my son comes home from college, he can just use a wireless card to get instant access. (I have a DI-624 on order for wireless/wired access. Perhaps overkill.)

DirecWay is using the same credit card I use for my monthly payment. Don't know other experiences, but I have never had a billing problem. I don't know if they'll bill you.

My 4000 with the tweaks works fine, so I am not complaining and crossing my fingers that the 6000 works as well. Haven't seen anything to the contrary. Goes a little against my tendency not to be the guinea pig with new hardware/software. (I'm still on W2K. Like it.)

Love the forum! Jimmy

I also wonder if they give the extra $100 for the return of the 4000s because they plan to resell them or to scrap them and get them off the market.

My guess is they have stopped manufacture of the DW4000 and will use these returned units as maintenance spares. Or they might sell them to international markets.

Actually the DW4000 units will be used for sales of DW4020, DW4030, DW4010 and RMA of domestic units. Trust me I know what will happen. Lets hope HNS billing can handle all the credits.

i just got off the phone with DW about the DW6000 upgrade. in the event anybody missed this little bit of info it is true that it cost's 424.00 + tax. You do get $100.00 credit for a 15 month commitment & $100.00 credit for returning the old modems. However these credits are applied to your billing statement so it still cost's you $424.00 out of pocket to upgrade. And no revisions to your statement are done until they receive the old modems. then you have to rely on direcway to keep the billing straight in awarding the $200.00 credit to your billing account. i decided to pass, not interested in paying out another $424.00 cash money for the same service i already have & an ethernet type connection. fortunately i have not had any woes with the DW software on my computer even with the DW Beta programs i have been using..

Hola all,

Just one quick question. Can you get the upgrade without the 15 month reup? I might have wireless/DSL out here in the boonies in the next few months or so. (could be a year) I don't want to be tied down to a contract again if wireless/DSL become available to me. I want to drop Direcway like a bad habit when/if another option becomes available to me.

I'm willing to pay $334 to do that so I can get DW's software off my host and get that machine back from the satellite internet demons. I'm just wondering if upgrading without a new contract is even possible.

Never mind....answered my own question by calling the 1-800 number. Yes you can get the upgrade without the 15 month contract. You just won't get the $100 back for that part. You'll still get $100 back if you send back your old modems. Total cost without contract - $324

So what you are saying is that your credit card will be billed $424 plus tax and when they receive the other two modems they will credit your card with $200? Or...will the $200 be spread out over time as credits towards each months usage fee?

According to what they told ME, the 15 month $100 credit gets applied immediately and the other $100 when they receive the modems. Of course I won't know for sure until I get my CC statement.

they told me that nothing is credited back to your credit card or bank account. it is credited to your DW user account based on your monthly billing fees. she did say that whatever the credit due (100 or 200) based on returning the old modems or a 15 month commitment it will apply all at once which would lead me to believe they would stop billing your credit card until the excess credit was used up. whether or not this would happen remains to be seen. sounds like the potential for an administrative nightmare.

That makes sense. I thought they would just bill the $324 instead of $424, but again I'll let you know when I get the statement.
