[DW6000] DW6000 Upload speeds

From what im seeing the DW6000 is getting slow upload speeds is this something that is going to be fixed or if i get a 6000 will i have to deal with the upload?

Also im going to be ordering a satellite connection REALLY SOON and im trying to decide what to get.. right now im leaning towards a Groundcontrol or Earthlink one.. that is IF the dw6000 has the upload problems.

Well, I just got my DW6000 a couple of days ago now, and after dealing with some whiny problems like snow interference here, I'm settling into enjoying the speeds.

The download is great...
The uploads are better than dialup... Most of the stuff I upload are small (5-250K) files for my website/s. According to my speed tests at mydirecway that do a up & down test at the same time, it showed my upload rate at 174K... a little higher than what I think it really is, but I'm satisfied... I'll know more when I upload a full website... I tried uploading a few 5MB mp3s to my server, and they were pretty slow, but better still than dialup.

As I understand it, the professional edition comes with more download speeds also allows for a little faster uploads, but I haven't confirmed that with any concrete info yet... but if the first few weeks goes well, I'll probably make that upgrade soon.

Besides a few problems that seemed common among the satellite community, the DW6000 is doing pretty well.

You can't give the 6000 a 'try' there is no 30 day trial period.

I'm on professional I've pretty much been on 17k or less uploads for the last ten years or so, including the last two years I have been on drs aol plus satellite. Most of my speed tests have been pretty good on the upload.

I'm on the 6000, and ran several tests here last night. Uploads ranged from 93 to 220. Better than the 4000. However, I can't get my download speed where my 4000 was.

you must have sun java, it displays erroneous test results, as has been said in several other threads where you have bragged about upload speeds over 200, not a flying chance in hell.. .

this packet protocol limits uploads to 128 kbs

it ain't happening .. do a ftp upload of a 10 mb file.. you will see..

My experience so far, and that of a few others in these forums, is that there is an "issue" with uploading using some (all?) DW6000 systems. Trying to upload/e-mail/in-any-way-transfer more than about 180k of data is excruciating. A small file uploads in a flash . . . but cross the magic line and upload drops to less than 1kbps AS DOES THE ENTIRE SPEED OF UPLOAD AND DOWNLOAD ON THE REST OF MY HOME NETWORK (caps for emphasis, not shouting )

Upload speed tests report values in line with what most everyone else reports on these forums . . . slower than everyone would like, but nothing out of the ordinary. Actual performance, however, is something else again.

I am trying to evaluate if this is a Mac issue (but at least 1 PC user has reported similar symptoms), a DW6000 issue, a router issue, etc.

If anyone has any relevant experience or info, I sure would love to see it.

Hey Dave, chill out. I'm not bragging about anything. Just reporting what I see. I do have sun java, you're right. So, if sun java is "buggy", what should I be using then?

Thanks for the info. I just re-tested using MSVM, and got 996/17. So, looks like Sun is buggy.

BTW, can somebody tell me how I can tell what satellite i'm on?

There is a speed difference. You can tweak the 4000 and not so with the 6000. I don't know enough about the 6000 to say go for it. I like EL so I will not upgrade since you can't with the vars........:)

The 6000 can run with or without a proxy. Using the proxy is a little faster. When I had the 4000, I could never get it to browse without the proxy.

Are you sure you're talking about the DW4000 from Ground Control or the DW4020. The DW4000 should be considered deprecated and heading toward obsolence. There is no reason IMHO to go with the DW4000 today.

I'm considering a Ground Control DW4020 tho.

ok i must post this .. i have been fighting upload on my dw6000 since day one.. speeds have been 5 to 7 kbs on all test sights that show up speeds.. also on my netpersec monitor.... since i dropped my local dsl i have not been able to test on dslreports, said i had a java error.. so this evening i download latest sun java.. now on all the sights that gave me 5 to 7kbs up, i now show from 87 to 121 kbs even on the dw speed test??? but my netpersec still show around 7kbs...i am sure dw will be thrilled to see those numbers logged into my account log!!! the time it takes to upload a 150k file is still the same amount of time.. abt 5 minutes...so which numbers will dw honor!!!!..any coment would be appriciated...

Sun Java will give you false reading on a Satellite connect. Go to advance tab and uncheck the Sun Java box.

I too have been experiencing problems sending emails on a Mac,
after a certain point only 3k packets are sent every second or so.
By increasing the 'sendspace' parameters the files send very quickly,
but then seem to hang on the last 3k. I'm guessing that the send file is being verified, again with 3k packets, although the email program seems just toi be stalled, since eventually it is sent.
I don't know enough to really know what is going on, direcway support wasn't all that helpful, the person I talked to wasn't very Mac aware.
Any info would be appreciated.
