WebWasher™ question

I'm trying WebWasher™, and I've noticed a peculiar behavior, which is that pages load slowly or not at all, unless I'm running two or more windows-in which case, doing something in the 'front' window will cause the 'back' window to load. So I end up alternating. Is there some setting I can change in WW that would eliminate this problem?

well, I have been using Webwasher for a few weeks. I have not had the problems you are speaking of. Browser is still fast as always. Maybe a more experienced user such as ethics13 could help you.

I've been using WW for a few weeks myself. Here is my setup on one particular machine:

Win 2k - PII roughly 160 megs ram
Running: WW, Cookie Wall, AVG, InnoculateIT PE, TDS-3, Worm Guard, IE, OE, ZAP, PGP, BigFix. I find no slowdown in the page load times.

As a matter of fact, I posted a thread just very recently (click me) which shows how much memory usage web washer takes up. It is less than ZAP.

So I have to question if WW is the application that is slowing you down. Is there anything else you have done recently that could be doing this?

I'm pretty certain it's ww, as when I turn it off, like now, everything is back to normal. It might be a peculiarity of the mac version and/or it's interaction with netscape. I'm running 9.1 on a g3 powerbook, with 160 megs ram; I'm also running Door Stop Personal.

Got it! (I think...so far)

I tried restarting my software router (IPNetRouter FBA) while running ww, and it seems to have solved it.

Re: WebWasher™ question

I apologize, I have no experience with the MAC version. Anyone who does, care to step up to the plate?

Re: WebWasher™ question

I seem to remember in another thread that Ethics said to make sure you enable WW before you start your browser...this could make a difference...sorry I can 't find the exact reference right now.

That is correct. To fully ensure that WW is working, load that first, and then load your browser.

This is something I am meaning to address with the WW team.

That much was easy; in fact, a correctly configured WebWasher will auto start netscape (in other words, clicking the ww icon starts ww, which then starts netscape; quitting ww will also quit netscape. Starting netscape without ww is possible; however, starting ww after netscape quits netscape, then starts ww, then restarts netscape.
The trick is either to not be using my software router or to start it after starting ww- I suppose so that it will recognize the proxy settings.

I've also noted a few other odd behaviors:
the speed applet will invariable lock up netscape at the final upload test

Urls are no longer autocompleted-if I type in (for instance) yahoo, normally I would be taken to www.yahoo.com. Now I get a ww error:

WebWasher - Error 500: Internal Server Error

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.

Couldn't connect to server 'yahoo' (port 80) !
Either the server is down or your network is not properly configured. Maybe you have to use a proxy to connect to the internet. Perhaps
your modem is switched off / your network card is disconnected or the address wasn't entered correctly. Please check if the URL is correct.

However, typing yahoo.com works fine.

I don't see those issues with IE, ie: www.yahoo.com vs. yahoo.com.

Maybe I was a little unclear- I used to be able to type in (for instance) nytimes (no www, no com), and get to the site; now I have to type nytimes.com to get there (otherwise I get that error). Not a big deal, but the better I understand the program, the better I'll feel.

I don't know about that, I do not use any browser that allows me to type in a url with the top-level domain names. But I can type yahoo.com for instance and it works.

Perhaps your browser has the top-level names saved in a cache like IE? When I type "yah".. usually a drop down list reveals entries like "www.yahoo.com" which I then select.

Usually netscape will auto complete- if I type in ds, for instance, it would add the lreports.com automatically; with ww on, it doesn't do it anymore...
