| Wireless Update Rollup Package for Windows XP
SP1 (Service Pack One ) must be Installed before installing this:
Microsoft has released an update rollup package for Microsoft Windows XP that includes the hotfixes and updates that are described in the following list. This small, comprehensive rollup of updates is an easy mechanism for managing the rollout of Wireless fixes.
The following problems are resolved by this update: You Experience a Long Delay When You Connect to a Wireless Network
When you connect to a wireless network by using 802.1x authentication, your network connection may take between 30 and 60 seconds to be established. This problem occurs because the Wireless Zero Configuration service is delayed when it tries to start. The Wireless Zero Configuration service does not start in a timely manner because it depends on the NETMAN component, but the NETMAN component has not yet been loaded at startup. An Incorrect Media Status Appears for the Wireless Interface
When your computer is the only computer in a wireless network that is in ad-hoc mode, the wireless network connection icon may incorrectly show that the wireless network adapter is connected. User Interface Items Are Incorrectly Translated in Other Languages
Several user interface items in the Windows XP Support Patch for Wireless Protected Access (WPA) package that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article are incorrectly translated in some Far East languages: 815485 Overview of the WPA Wireless Security Update in Windows XP
WPA Does Not Work Correctly in Mixed AES/TKIP Modes
WPA does not work correctly with an access point that is configured for Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) encryption for unicast transmission and for Temporary Key Integrity Protocol (TKIP) encryption for broadcast transmission. WPA Defaults to a Weaker Encryption Scheme
By default, when a wireless client is offered the ability to connect to a wireless network by using the TKIP encryption scheme or by using the AES encryption scheme, the client selects the weaker encryption scheme. Wireless Networking Client Incorrectly Responds to an RC4 Key Message in Non-WEP Mode
When you connect to a wireless connection that is encrypted by using the AES encryption, Windows incorrectly responds to an RC4 encryption algorithm message. Cannot Reconnect to the Preferred Network After an Unsuccessful Key Exchange
When a wireless client key exchange operation is unsuccessful, the client fails the connection and blocks any attempts to automatically reconnect. You must then manually try to reconnect to the wireless network. 802.1x Failure Counter is Not Reset After a Successful Key Exchange
The Wireless Zero Configuration service maintains a counter of unsuccessful authentication and key exchange attempts. However, when a wireless client successfully authenticates and performs a key exchange, this counter is not automatically reset.
This update also resolves the problems that are described in the following Knowledge Base articles:
822596 DHCP Does Not Obtain a New Address When EAP Reauthenticates Across Access Points with IP Subnets That Differ
826239 Small Delay in Logon to Network When You Use a Wireless Network Connection.

| reply to ZOverLord Has this been updated again??? I'm seeing on the page for it version 2.0, updated 11/24/03 (scroll ALL the way down). I don't want to re-download it again if it's not really updated. I got it like 2-3 weeks ago. Anyone?? -- King of BB... Bling-Bling, that is! |

1 edit | No, the date you are looking at is known as a review date.
The actual date of the code modification is next to the download link on the page itself. It is still the same as the date I posted it.
Please note there is a 32 bit Download and a 64 bit download link once you go to the page in my original post.
You only need one, If you don't know which one you need, trust me use the 32 bit, you would know if you were running 64 bit XP.
No, this update is NOT included in the auto-windows update and currently requires going to the link in my original post to install it. |

chazwr Premium join:2002-08-18 Belmar, NJ | reply to ZOverLord Unfortunately, I saw no improvement. Still a 30 to 60 wait before the wireless connection comes up, thoug occasionally, it's up right away. FYI I've got a laptop with XP Pro/Dell 1150 wireless NIC connecting to a DLINK 614+. |

| FYI... About the DI-614+: This update fixed my problems at home using WPA-PSK-AES on a linksys AP. Now I'm on my friend's DI-614+ using WEP, and it takes 30-60 seconds to establish a connection.
Maybe it is the router.
(PS. I just upgraded the firmware to 2.20. I'm not sure if this problem started before or after the upgrade, so you might try going back to 2.18 if it really bothers you.) -- The visionary is always right. |

sded Premium join:2002-11-04 San Diego, CA | Are you setting up your TCP/IP properties so that both your NIC and your DNS servers are fixed IPs? The Default Gateway should be the LAN address of your modem. Got rid of the delay for me and many others not using authentication. |

| reply to No_Strings I agree, this should be a sticky. It would've save me about 3 days worth of tinkering and headaches.
I have two WPC11 cards and two WUSB11 adapters. The WPC11 cards were rock solid. The USB adapters cut out and disconnected all the time, even though signal strength was 100%. I even bought a WMP11 hoping the PCI card would work better, yet had the same problems.
So far, the roll-up package solved my problems with the WMP11. I haven't tried it on the WUSB11's yet. |

1 edit | reply to sded yep they are both fixed............the default gateway on my NIC is the gateway of the router. that is the way I was instructed how to do it from this message board.......it works.........my delay is cut down since uninstalling Norton 2003....I now have Norton 2004 and all appears OK.........I am thinking of going back to the dynamic IP, but not sure just timed it.......it is 40 seconds from desktop |
