I looked at the update page but it has 2 update choices:

Win XP 32 bit or 64 bit ??

How do I know which one I need.

Thanks.

Steve

Click on the downoloads and read the requirements. Unless you have Windows XP Professional 64 Bit Edition you need the 32-bit version.

Are you running windows xp on a 64 bit processor? Windows XP 64 bit is a special version of the os optimised for those processors.
99% of the world will use the 32bit version

What he said. If you're not sure, just use the 32-bit one.

The update did fix my long delay after boot up. My Wireless connection is now active almost instantly after Zone Alarm and McAfee loads.

I believe the majority of us are 32bit. Not real sure about that and maybe someone can explain.

Quick question about the this. I did not even install the WPA patch for XP Pro i guess i don't really need this Update?

Well, I guess if you aren't having any wireless related problems, then no, you really don't need it. BUT, it is worth it IMO. Of course you need SP1 before you get this rollup package, too, so make sure that's installed prior.

How does this roll up Package relate to the one I just found on teh Microsoft site called.....

Overview of the Advanced Networking Pack for Windows XP
(817778) - This article discusses the Advanced Networking Pack for Windows XP Service Pack 1 (SP1). The Advanced Networking Pack is an add-on for Windows XP SP1 that includes an updated Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) networking stack, an IPv6 Internet...

This fixed my problem perfectly--was having trouble getting an IP address with my new USB 802.11b NETGEAR adapter.

Kudos to the original poster!

You probably have 32 bit. You would know if you have a 64 bit processor and the 64 bit XP Operating System.

Follow Up

I got rid of the Dell TrueMobile Config Utility and
now I have no startup delays. So perhaps the Update Rollup helped, or maybe the problem was the Utility all along.

Re: Wireless Update Rollup Package for Windows XP

Is the Q819696 dated March 03 update not part of the windows rollup package KB86942 dated October 03. If not do I need to download and install this first and then the wireless rollup update. I am a little confused.

Yes, I'm showing Q819696 on my qfecheck.exe list (this cmd line program can be downloaded from microsoft's website - it shows which hotfixes you have installed). I only installed KB86942 (the rollup package), so Q819696 must be included. It didn't fix my problem, though... I will try getting a fixed IP first, and then repost if I still have problems.
